Breil/Brigels is in the Surselva region of the Swiss canton of GraubĂĽnden. The network of trails, cultural sites and activities by the water offer a range of ways to enjoy your stay. Options include everything from walks and historic religious buildings to alpine tours and winter sports.

Trails and Religious Buildings

Breil/Brigels has more than 150 km of trails, ranging from walks and family outings to alpine tours. In Brigels, the trails are well maintained and clearly signposted, with plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. The Brigels Chapel Trail is a meditative route to historic religious buildings. It offers a different focus from an alpine tour: the trail and the historic buildings take centre stage.

Above the village, on the Crest s. Sievi hill, are the remains of a small fort and the early medieval Chapel of St Eusebius. In the centre of Brigels stands Casa Latour, a stone house with a tower above the entrance. Casper de Latour-Scarpatetti had the house built between 1895 and 1898.

Fidel's talina also explores the past: historical tools collected by Fidel Schmed are presented along this digital themed trail. A key is required for access. You can get one during opening hours from the Surselva Tourism office in Brigels; check the current office hours in advance. At Tegia Rasuz, traditional, hearty meals may be available by prior arrangement by phone.

By the Lake and in the Countryside

Lake Brigels is a pleasant place for walks along the shore and a chance to relax. Swimming is prohibited because the lake is used to generate electricity. The maximum depth of the Brigels swimming lake is 1.60 m. Facilities include a paddling pool for the youngest visitors, a sunbathing lawn and a barbecue area with seating. A tubing run, a table tennis table and a chessboard are also available free of charge. As some facilities may change, check what is available on the day of your visit.

The Scatlè nature reserve lies northwest of the village on the eastern slope of Piz Dado, at about 1,580 to 2,015 m above sea level. It is next to the Flem River in the lower Val Frisal and is considered Europe's highest-altitude spruce primeval forest. An alpine tour leads from Brigels into Val Frisal. This landscape offers a different setting from walks around Lake Brigels: here, the focus is on the high mountains and the trail into an alpine valley.

Winter Activities, Golf and Getting There

The Brigels-Waltensburg-Andiast ski area has around 40 km of pistes reaching up to 2,400 m above sea level. The Brigels–Crest Falla four-seater chairlift runs from 1,280 m above sea level to the top station at 1,670 m, and the ride takes six minutes. You can reach the Brigels ski area by car, train or bus. If you are travelling by public transport, check the timetables for your travel dates.

Brigels has two cross-country skiing loops. The Migliè / Plaun sut trail passes Lake Brigels and winds through snow-covered forests. The winter activities therefore differ not only by type: the ski area offers pistes, while the cross-country trail takes you through a winter landscape.

Golfidylle Brigels is a 9-hole course on the Tschuppina panoramic plateau. Its sunny location allows for a playing season from April to November.
