The time of year affects what is available in Aeschiried: access to the Suldtal is seasonal, and several winter activities depend on snow or the season. Hiking routes also differ in their course and endpoint—a useful starting point when planning your getaway.
Circular Trails, a Trail and Lake Views
The Alpine Bänklirundweg starts and ends at the Aeschiried Schulhaus bus stop. It is 10.2 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of 3 hours and 45 minutes. After Greberegg, the trail descends along a small path into the idyllic Suldtal.
The Chugeli Trail features ten marble runs over a distance of approximately 4.7 kilometres. The stated walking time for the route is 2 to 3 hours. It starts at the Schulhaus Aeschiried stop and ends in Aeschi village square, so the start and finish are in different places. There is a vending machine for wooden marbles at the start; the corresponding hiking map is available free of charge in the postbus shelter right next door. As these visitor details may change, check before your visit whether the vending machine and map are available.
The Seeblick circular trail also starts at the Aeschiried Schulhaus stop and returns to its starting point. In some sections, the trail offers views of Lake Thun. So, as well as the route to Aeschi, there are circular trails that end where they start.
Suldtal and Nearby Trails
The Suldtal nature reserve has numerous hiking and biking routes, as well as picnic spots along the Suld stream. A short circular trail leads to Pochtenfall; the waterfall can be reached on foot in 15 minutes. The Suldtal is accessible from the beginning of May to the end of October. As access and trail conditions can vary seasonally, check conditions before your outing.
The Gasthaus Suld in the Suldtal can be reached on foot from Aeschiried in about an hour. This walking time is an estimate and depends on the route and conditions. The Rengglipass leads from Aeschiried to Saxeten, providing another named connection between places.
Seasonal Winter Activities
Aeschiried has a well-groomed sledging run; its winter operation depends on snow conditions. The panoramic swing is located on the Aeschiried sledging run. This adds another local stop to a winter outing, without implying that the run operates regardless of snow conditions.
In snowy winters, the cross-country ski trail network covers 35 kilometres. The loops continue through Aeschi, Seewenegg and Aeschiried to lower Obersuld or into the Suldtal. The offer depends on sufficient snow cover and winter trail preparation. For skiing, the Aeschiallmend and Allmispitz drag lifts provide access to red, blue and black runs. Lift and slope operations are seasonal.
Local Character and History
Aeschiried lies on a treeless hill southeast of the village centre. Its documented history dates back to 1342; the compound name “Aesche-Rieder” is first recorded in 1838. These dates provide a historical context for the area, while today’s range of outings is shaped primarily by trails and seasonal activities.
Plan Your Visit and Journey
During a visit to an alpine cheese dairy, visitors can watch alpine cheese being made and then sample the finished products. The dairy can be reached on foot from the Aeschiried car park in about 20 minutes. Booking and seasonal opening times may change, so check the date in advance.
Postbus route 62 runs hourly from Spiez railway station to Aeschiried. Check the timetable for your travel date. Aeschiried also has several paid car parks; parking conditions and payment methods may change. Checking in advance will help you plan the most suitable way to travel.
