The Engstligen Falls plunge 600 metres from the Engstligenalp plateau into the valley. You can experience them via a circular trail, a mountain hiking trail and a via ferrata, or by bus or gondola. Other hiking options, a museum featuring topics from the Engstlig Valley and seasonal insights into cheese-making round out the selection. You can plan your time in Adelboden around interests such as scenery, outdoor activities, culture and local traditions.
Choose ski runs and hiking trails by length
Of the 34 kilometres of ski runs in the Silleren–Chuenisbärgli ski area, 17 are blue, 15 red and 2 black. Blue runs are therefore the longest of the three categories. Check whether the ski area is operating before you travel, before including it in your plans.
The lengths of the hiking options can also be compared directly: the SillerenbĂĽhl circular trail is 1.8 kilometres long, the Blumenweg themed trail is 3.2 kilometres, and the trail to the Engstligen Falls is 7.2 kilometres. The SillerenbĂĽhl trail is the shortest of the three, while the trail to the Engstligen Falls is the longest. The challenging Via Alpina Stage 14 is a hiking stage from Kandersteg to Adelboden.
The “Vogellisi” adventure trail is a designated themed hiking trail. Through nature experiences, games and fun, it tells the story of Vogellisi. The trail features ten activity stations and a barbecue area. Trottiland Adelboden at VogellisiBerg offers seven varied routes totalling 45 kilometres. These routes may be available seasonally; check in advance if you plan to include them in your itinerary.
Experience waterfalls and a gorge
The 600-metre-high cascades of the Engstligen Falls define the landscape. The waterfalls have been under cantonal nature protection since 1948. There are several ways to reach them: a circular trail, a mountain hiking trail, a via ferrata, a bus or a gondola. Check seasonal access conditions and bus and gondola operating schedules in advance.
The Cholerenschlucht gorge offers a different experience: it is 100 metres long and has steps and bridges throughout. Inside the gorge are waterfalls, numerous watermills and smooth, sculpted rocks. So, alongside the large cascades of the Engstligen Falls, you can also explore a gorge with its own blend of water, rock and mills as a natural and cultural landscape.
Local history, a museum and an alpine dairy
The Adelboden Local History Museum features a varied exhibition about customs and life in the Engstlig Valley. Exhibits include sports equipment, clothing, minerals, plenty of information about Adelboden’s history and an authentic alpine hut. Opening arrangements may vary, so check them before your visit. The “Stöckli” is another historic link to the village’s hospitality industry: it was the first hotel in Adelboden and was built in 1878.
During a visit to an alpine dairy, you can watch cheese being made up close over an Älpler-Zmorge (alpine breakfast). This experience is available during the alpine season; check the dates before your trip.
Guest card for your stay
Guests receive a guest card automatically when staying at least one night in the Adelboden destination. It serves as a ticket for public transport and many activities. Conditions and coverage may change, so check the current validity area if you plan to take the card into account.
