Kölliken lies in the lower Uerke Valley, on the border with the canton of Solothurn. There are different ways to explore the village: the Planet Trail uses the scale of the solar system to frame a hike, while the church, historic houses and the village museum’s collection offer insights into local history. There is also an adventure trail with changing surfaces, as well as the swimming pool with sports and children’s areas. You can choose to focus on outdoor activities or take a closer look at architectural history and exhibitions.

Planet Trail and Adventure Trail

The Aarau–Kölliken Planet Trail is just under 6 km long. At a scale of 1:1 billion, it shows both the distances from the Sun and the sizes of the Sun, the nine planets and Earth’s moon. This allows you to compare two aspects of the solar system along the same route: the distances between celestial bodies and their sizes. The trail passes through the forests of Aarau, Unterentfelden, Oberentfelden and Kölliken. From Kölliken railway station, reach it by following the hiking trail west to Kölliker Tann.

The Dorfplatz Kölliken Adventure Trail offers a different experience: as you walk over different surfaces, the focus is on sensory impressions. A municipal description dated 9 October 2024 states that the trail is freely accessible to the public. Check current access arrangements before your visit.

Church Ensemble and Architectural History

Kölliken’s Reformed church was built in 1507 to replace a medieval place of worship. The historic ensemble comprises the church building, the walled churchyard and the rectory, and is a reminder of a late Gothic church. The church is protected as a monument at both cantonal and federal levels. At this named site, the history of the church building is linked to an ensemble whose components extend beyond the church itself.

The church is open during services and events. For a private visit, you can collect the key at any time from the rectory or from the sexton at the hair salon next to the parish hall. Access arrangements may change, so it is advisable to check shortly before your visit.

The Egelmoos high-post house also offers insight into the village’s architectural history. According to its inscription, it was built no later than 1758. The cantonal monument inventory highlights the original, soot-blackened high-post construction that has been preserved, large parts of the original plank-frame façades and interior plank-frame walls, and the essential floor plan as important evidence of the craftsmanship and architectural design of the period.

Thatched-Roof Houses and Village Museum

Kölliken is known as a village of thatched-roof houses; three of the five such houses still standing in Aargau are located here. The village museum in the thatched-roof house will remain closed all year in 2026 due to renovation work. Its permanent exhibition shows rural life and work around 1900, as well as agricultural and forestry tools and machinery. The exhibition also includes a salt chamber, washing equipment, beekeeping, a kitchen garden and an orchard with a collection of old regional fruit varieties. If you plan to visit after 2026, check the current opening hours before including the museum in your plans.

Swimming Pool and Playground

The swimming pool’s facilities, as described in 2025, include large shade-giving trees, a well-maintained sunbathing lawn and a beach volleyball court. The children’s area has a large sandpit, water to splash around in and a large sunshade. The pool also has a restaurant. Check the seasonal availability of the facilities if you plan to visit the swimming pool.

The public Rägeboge playground offers another way to spend time outdoors. Together with the adventure trail and swimming pool, it adds activities in the village in their own right to the hiking and cultural options.
