Oberentfelden stretches across the lower Suhr Valley, from wooded heights across a fertile plain to further wooded slopes. The Suhre, the Uerke and several biotopes shape the landscape. There are also paths for walks, jogging and cycling, as well as museums and historic sites. Depending on your interests, you can focus your stay on nature, local history or both.
Forest Trails and River Landscape
The Entfelden Forest Adventure Trail combines a traditional nature trail with an adventure trail. It is about 2.5 kilometres long, follows forest paths and is marked as a circular route. You can choose your direction. Its length provides a specific guide for planning, without specifying a particular walking time.
There are paths along the Suhre and Uerke for walks, jogging and cycling. If you prefer a longer themed route to a circuit in the forest, the Aarau-Kölliken Planet Trail offers a different way to explore: it is just under six kilometres long and runs through the forests of Aarau, Unterentfelden, Oberentfelden and Kölliken. At a scale of 1:1 billion, the educational trail illustrates the distances from the sun and the sizes of the sun, nine planets and Earth's moon. For a shorter forest walk, the approximately 2.5-kilometre circular route is the main option; the Planet Trail combines a longer route with an astronomical theme.
The Zurich vitaparcours Ober-/Unterentfelden starts at the Entfelden indoor swimming pool. This starting point offers another specific reference point when planning your time outdoors.
Industrial History and Blacksmithing
The Oberentfelden Industrial Museum presents special exhibitions on local history and industrial businesses. Its collections also include holdings from Walther Bürsten AG. Museum opening hours are available on request.
The «Alte Schmitte» Museum tells the story of the historic building and the craft of blacksmithing. A guided tour can include a demonstration in the on-site forge. As visitor arrangements may vary, it is best to coordinate your visit with the provider in advance. The Oberentfelden Blacksmiths' Association also offers demonstrations for schools and groups; these require prior arrangements. Beginner blacksmithing courses are also available. Check course availability before travelling.
A Glimpse into Local History
Oberentfelden Church was completed in July 1866 and is a protected heritage site. The history of an important Roman estate with a manor house reaches back even further; the site was inhabited until the 4th century. These different periods give local history more than one historical point of reference.
In the Middle Ages and early modern period, the monasteries of Disentis, Königsfelden and Beromünster, the Hallwyler family and the city of Bern all played a role. In the second half of the 18th century, Oberentfelden was a centre of cotton processing. Together with the exhibitions on local and industrial history, these offer several ways to explore the town's past.
Courses, Sauna and Golf
The Oberentfelden Leisure Workshop offers courses for adults and young people, including cooking and baking classes. The specific course programme may change and is seasonal, so check in advance which courses are available during your visit.
Depending on the day of the week and occupancy, the Entfelden outdoor and indoor swimming pool has two separate sauna areas. As opening arrangements may vary, check the current conditions before visiting. At Golf Entfelden, the second nine holes are on the original course among old trees. The fairways there are short and narrow.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Oberentfelden is connected via the A1 motorway and Suhrentalstrasse. The town also has an SBB railway station and services operated by Aargau Verkehr AG's Wynental and Suhrental railways. As train services may change, check the timetable for your travel dates. For planning purposes, it is helpful to match your journey with your main interest: forest trails, rivers and the Planet Trail offer a different focus from museum visits, blacksmithing demonstrations or courses.
