On the Moälven canoe trail, you can paddle from Moliden to the Friluftscentralen in Själevad; on foot, there is a shorter loop and a waterside trail. Själevads kyrka is another notable landmark. The different options raise different planning questions: How far would you like to paddle, what kind of walk suits your trip, and are you also interested in an event date?

Paddling on the Moälven canoe trail

The Moälven canoe trail is 20 kilometres long and runs from Moliden to the sea. You can paddle about 16 kilometres along the route from Moliden to the Friluftscentralen in Själevad, in a Canadian canoe or sea kayak. The two distances refer to different endpoints: around 16 kilometres to the Friluftscentralen or 20 kilometres to the sea. So when planning, the first thing to decide is your preferred endpoint, not just the distance. The Friluftscentralen has a launch site for canoes and kayaks.

On the downstream section, the route to the sea through the Själevadsfjärden runs mostly across the lake. So when choosing, you can take into account the described character of the water as well as the distance. Before setting off, check the water conditions and whether the services you need for your trip are available.

Church and event

Själevads kyrka is an octagonal, neoclassical central church, characterised by restrained neoclassical design. Both its architectural form and style are important when considering its architecture. Their combination gives the cultural theme a clear focus: the church's character is shaped not only by its neoclassical style, but also by its octagonal form.

The Finnish and Sami Activity Day is held regularly at the Friluftscentralen in Själevad. If you would like to plan your trip around this occasion, check the event dates in advance. This lets you include a specific date in your plans without assuming a particular season or fixed schedule.

Loops, swimming spots and orienteering

If you are travelling with a pram or walking frame, the shorter Själevad loop offers a useful guide: much of the route can be walked with these aids. The swimming spot on this loop has a sandy beach, picnic tables and a barbecue area. This means you can consider both the accessibility of much of the route and the opportunity to take a break at the swimming spot.

Käringberget swimming spot is below Själevads kyrka; a hiking trail runs along the water there. Swimming conditions depend on the season, and trail conditions can also vary throughout the year. So take the season into account both when planning a day of swimming and when assessing the walk.

Another way to get active is through the orienteering club Skogslöparna in Själevad. The club welcomes newcomers to Örnsköldsvik and people who would like to try orienteering for the first time, regardless of their skill level at training. If you would like to take part, check the current participation requirements, as they may change.
