At Lake Immeln, clear water meets rocky shores. There are also hiking trails of varying lengths, islands that are important for birdlife, and the “Svart Granit” exhibition in the centre. You can explore Immeln through several specific choices: the length of a hiking route, nature or cultural themes, and the type of accommodation. For stays by the lake, there are campsites on several islands and on the mainland.
Lake, Islands and Rest Areas
Lake Immeln has clear water and rocky shores. In the Immeln nature reserve, numerous islands are important for the area’s rich birdlife. This means two specific nature themes sit side by side: the shoreline and aquatic landscape, and the role of the islands for birdlife. There are five designated rest areas by the lake, with fire pits, wind shelters and toilets; all are outside the nature reserve.
Hiking: Route Length and Course
Stenrundan is a 5.2 km hiking trail in Immeln that runs from the village centre by Stenmuséet to the old quarry at Gedenryd. Stage 8 of Skåneleden SL6 is 10 km long and runs from Arkelstorp to Immeln. At 10 km, this stage is 4.8 km longer than Stenrundan. The figures make it possible to compare the route lengths directly; the starting and finishing points also differ. Stenrundan runs from the village centre by Stenmuséet to the old quarry, while the SL6 stage starts in Arkelstorp and ends in Immeln. Both the length and the route are therefore relevant to your choice.
Hiking, Canoeing and Fishing
Rundleden between Immeln and Breanäs was developed as part of the project as a combined hiking and canoe trail. This sets it apart from the two hiking trails described above in terms of how you get around: hiking and canoeing are combined here. When planning, you can therefore consider this combination as a distinct focus, rather than choosing based only on route length. Spinning for pike and perch is also possible on Lake Immeln. This offers another water-based activity alongside hiking and canoeing, and specifies the two fish species targeted by spinning.
Village Centre and Accommodation by the Lake
The settlement of Immeln, by the railway station, is at the southern tip of Lake Immeln. The “Svart Granit” exhibition is in the centre of Immeln, in the railway’s old water tower. If you plan to visit the exhibition, check in advance whether a visit is possible. For a hike, Stenrundan offers two specific points of interest: the village centre by Stenmuséet and the old quarry at Gedenryd; the exhibition is a separate cultural attraction in the centre. There are campsites on several islands and on the mainland by the lake, where you can stay overnight. With this type of accommodation, you can consider the location as a specific factor: island or mainland.
