Glimåkra combines outdoor trails with a local history reflected in its church, railway settlement and museums. The medieval predecessor church and the timber architecture from around 1900 provide historical reference points; Trollacenter and Trollabadet represent outdoor activities.

Trails, Sports and Outdoor Pool

The hiking and fitness trails in Glimåkra start at the car parks by Trollacenter or Trollabadet. Trollstigen is an activity trail for children; Skåneleden runs through Trollabackarna. The trails and their stated starting points provide practical guidance when planning outdoor activities as part of your stay.

Trollacenter offers activities for the whole family: short walking trails, a skatepark, a playground and an outdoor gym. The Trollarinken ice rink is also on the grounds. You can play curling on two smaller rinks there; availability is seasonal. If curling is important to your visit, check current availability in advance.

Trollabadet outdoor pool in Glimåkra is one of the municipality of Östra Göinge’s two seasonal outdoor pools. It is located by Trollasjön, with the Trollabackarna forest behind it. The outdoor pools are open in summer, from June to August. Check the dates for the current season before travelling.

Church and Local History

Glimåkra kyrka is centrally located in Glimåkra and surrounded by a lush green park. The present church building was erected in 1837–1838 on the site of an older church dating from the 13th century. The church is open during services and on weekdays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The railway’s history is also connected to this place: the Glimåkra–Kristianstad line was built in 1886 in the immediate vicinity of the church. Much of the timber architecture in the railway settlement from around 1900 has been preserved. The church, railway line and settlement provide different historical reference points for the local history.

Weaving, Glass and Local Stories

The Svenska VävstolsMuseet features a permanent exhibition of looms and weaving equipment. The museum also has a library with books on textiles. The Svenska VävstolsMuseet holds 8–10 courses each year in crafts and traditional handicrafts, with a focus on hand weaving. The course programme may vary; if you are planning to attend a course, check the current offerings.

The Glimma Glass Museum displays photographs and glass from the former factory. The glass factory ceased operations in 1969. The museum therefore focuses on a different local craft tradition from the Svenska VävstolsMuseet: here, the focus is on glass and the factory’s history, while there, it is on looms and hand weaving.

Kulturspåret also includes stories from Glimåkra, recounted by Per Gustavsson. The collected works of Hiroshi Koyama can also be experienced in Glimåkra. These topics complement the architectural and industrial history with storytelling and art.
