Hanaskog brings together a historic manor, traces of the lime industry and opportunities to spend time outdoors. The main building, Kviinge Church and the lime kilns represent different chapters in the area's history; walking areas and an outdoor swimming pool offer opportunities to relax. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can assess Hanaskog based on whether you are more interested in architectural history, industrial history or outdoor activities.

Manor history and landscape

The main building of Hanaskog Manor is a two-storey red-brick building dating from 1852 to 1854. The architect H J Strömberg designed it in a period style inspired by the Middle Ages. The medieval influence describes the design, while the construction period clearly falls in the mid-19th century. The manor park was laid out in the first half of the 19th century, placing it in an earlier phase of the manor's history than the main building.

Hanaskog Manor is set in a landscape of broad fields and straight, tree-lined roads. Alongside the architecture, the landscape offers its own perspective on the area: the description encompasses not only a building but also the manor's open agricultural surroundings.

Hanaholm, the fortified predecessor of Hanaskog Manor, is part of the area's earlier history. It was located on three islands in the Helge ĂĄ, northeast of present-day Hanaskog. The manor's history therefore has its own historical landmark outside the present-day estate: Hanaholm refers to the fortified predecessor, while the manor's main building dates from the 19th century.

Lime kilns and industrial history

Another chapter is the historic lime works at Hanaskog. Two lime kilns remain: one from 1873 and one from 1929. Both are gas-fired kilns, which replaced the older ring kilns. The lime works ceased operations in the early 1960s. The distinction between these dates is important: 1873 and 1929 are the construction years of the surviving kilns, while the early 1960s mark the end of operations. In this way, the site reveals not only the surviving structures but also the technological development of the lime works.

Kviinge, walks and outdoor swimming

Kviinge Church in Hanaskog is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th to 13th centuries. It adds a much earlier architectural chapter to the manor's history and that of the lime kilns. Those interested in the area's historical development will find examples from different centuries and with different functions.

Kviinge backe is one of Hanaskog's most important local recreation and walking areas, and is characterised by deciduous woodland. There are also walking trails in the forest area south of Hanaskog. For planning time outdoors, the area includes both a named recreational area and trails in a forest.

Hanaskogsbadet is an outdoor swimming pool that is open daily in summer. As it operates seasonally, check that it is open before travelling. A stay that combines an interest in walks and summer swimming offers different outdoor activities, with swimming specifically available during the summer season.

Fishing permits are available from Träffpunkten in Hanaskog. If fishing is part of your stay, check the current regulations and permit availability in advance. Together with the historical attractions and walking opportunities, this practical information can help you decide which interests to prioritise during a stay in Hanaskog.
