Hästveda offers a range of options for a stay: market traditions, church art and outdoor activities. There is also Hembygdsparken, paths through various types of forest and landscape, the bathing area at Lursjön and skateboard ramps. Whether you plan your visit around an event date, cultural history or physical activity can be decided based on these specific offerings.
Market traditions on set dates
Hästveda Marknad is a traditional family market dating back to the 1870s. It takes place every year on the Wednesday and Thursday of the second week of July. The livestock market is held on the second day. If Marknad is the reason for your trip, check the dates for that year in advance. If you want to include both market days, plan your travel dates accordingly.
Church, wall paintings and local history
Hästveda kyrka was built around 1190 as a Romanesque country church. Its wall paintings date from around 1480 and are among the best-preserved and artistically most significant works by the Everlöv Master. The church building and paintings therefore belong to different periods: the Romanesque construction was followed by the later decoration with wall paintings. The church is also used for services and community events. If you want to include this use in your trip, check the relevant date before your visit.
Hembygdsparken in Hästveda offers another perspective on local history. It is a living museum with several preserved buildings, relocated here, dating from the 18th century and later. There is also an exhibition of stage costumes by Sonja Stjernquist. Alongside sacred architecture and art history, historical buildings and stage costumes offer different cultural subjects to explore.
Hiking and outdoor activities
The Lursjöleden is 13 km long in total and includes shorter circular sections. It passes through beech forest, mixed forest, spruce forest and open cultural landscapes; the terrain is easy and flat. Both the total distance and the option of shorter circular sections are relevant to your planning. You can choose the length of your route according to how much distance you want to cover.
There is also a 2.6 km illuminated loop in the area around Lillasjö. It is therefore considerably shorter than the full length of the Lursjöleden and offers a different scale for planning your route. Hästveda also has skateboard ramps. So, alongside hiking trails, there is another way to be active.
Bathing area and railway station
The bathing area at Lursjön in Hästveda is classified as an EU bathing site. A wheelchair ramp leads into the water; an asphalt path runs from a designated parking area to the ramp.
Hästveda railway station has parking, bicycle parking, a lift and a ticket machine. If you are taking station facilities into account in your planning, you can consider these features in relation to your own travel needs.
