The Skåneleden Ås till ås trail starts in Åstorp, at the foot of Söderåsen, and leads to Brösarp in Österlen. This starting point alone shows how trails, landscapes and cultural history come together in the municipality. Along with Bjuv, Klippan and Svalöv, Åstorp Municipality is part of the Söderåsen region—a regional connection you can discover as you explore its varied landscapes and places.
Hiking Trails with Different Perspectives
The Tingvalla recreation area has six trails for walking or jogging. Åstorp’s Hälsans Stig offers a different kind of route: this five-kilometre walking trail is adapted for accessibility and lit, and has no stairs, high kerbs or significant slopes. Kvidingeprofilen is six kilometres long. The trail combines nature and cultural experiences, and offers insight into Kvidinge’s historical role in Skåne and the municipality of Åstorp. The trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in the aspects of the area they bring to the fore.
The Makadamrundan runs for around 2.7 kilometres around the old quarry in Åstorp. Along the way, there are views of the quarry and towards Helsingborg. The Cykelleden Skåne cycle route also takes you through the municipality’s natural landscapes: its Klippan–Åstorp and Åstorp–Ängelholm sections pass through the area. Since routes and trail alignments can change, check the latest route information before setting out.
Woodland, Pastures and Trails on Söderåsen
The municipal Kalvahagen nature reserve is characterised by beech woodland and pastures. It also forms an important link between the centre of Åstorp and Söderåsen. The reserve has a nature playground made from robinia wood and laid out as an obstacle course. The Tingvalla–Hålebäck section runs along the northern slope of Söderåsen through deciduous woodland and the species-rich Tingvalla ravine; from there, wide trails continue east.
There are also specific facilities for tours that include an overnight stay: simple campsites with wind shelters and toilets are available along the entire Skåneleden Ås till ås route. There is also a service area with showers and toilets near Tingvalla. On the Rönneå canoe route, an overnight site with a wind shelter and toilets is located at Tomarps Ene. The availability of services and the conditions at facilities may change, so check the latest information before you set out.
Mining History and Preserved Buildings
Nyvångshögen is a slag heap from the former mining area, where hard coal was mined from 1907 to 1966. Nyvångs gruvmuseum explains how work was carried out at Sweden’s largest coal mine and how a new mining community came into being around a hundred years ago. The mining history comes to life not only through its timespan, but also through the working life and community life connected with it.
Gyllenbielkeska Hospitalet is one of Sweden’s oldest preserved poorhouses. Part of the building, dating from 1729, is used as a museum; it is not permanently staffed. Tomarps Kungsgård reflects a different historical transformation: originally a Danish medieval castle, it was converted into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. The two-storey, four-winged stone building encloses a paved courtyard. Outside the wings, the remains of the moat can be seen as elongated ponds. Parts of a defensive tower dating from around 1300 are located in the oldest, northern wing.
Today, Tomarps Kungsgård is an art gallery specialising in Swedish and international contemporary art. During the main season, it hosts music, theatre, workshops and other events. The café serves home-baked bread, open sandwiches, savoury pies, pastries, cookies and light lunches. Culture also meets a changing calendar of events elsewhere: Perslund hosts, among other things, an annual Christmas market and craft days; check current event dates before your visit. The art gallery presents an annual exhibition programme featuring national and local contemporary artists.
Culture, Swimming and Local Food
Kulturhuset Björnen offers a range of events for all ages and interests. The building was originally constructed in 1919 as an EFS church. The connection to the railway station is also straightforward: Åstorp station is just under a five-minute walk from Kulturhuset Björnen.
The seasonal Kvidinge outdoor swimming pool has a 25-metre pool, a children’s and teaching pool, and a paddling pool. Facilities also include boulders, beach volleyball, football, a boules court and an outdoor gym. Opening hours may change, so check the details for the relevant season.
Local food is also part of the municipality’s character. Sigvard Månsgård’s farm shop in Åstorp stocks a basic range; dishes from the production kitchen can be ordered for collection. The business serves street food at markets and fairs, and on Sundays also holds Sommargrillen at the farm. Its own lamb is used. The offering combines shopping, collection and eating on site, without requiring a set programme for your entire stay.
