Forests, Geology and Views
Tingvallaskogen in Åstorp includes species-rich deciduous forests and a ravine that runs through the area. Kalvahagen is a municipal nature reserve characterised by beech forest and pastureland. At the entrance to the reserve is an arboretum featuring various tree species found on Söderåsen. In Fårahagen, broad-canopied trees and flowering shrubs meet open areas rich in flowers; these habitats support a diverse range of insects and birds.
The geological formations also give the landscape a character of its own. Tingvallaravinen is a remnant of earthquakes that fractured the bedrock of Söderåsen around 200 million years ago. Klintagumman, meanwhile, is a gneiss rock formation at the northernmost tip of Söderåsen. Björnekulla klint, also called Klinten, lies on Söderåsen in the middle of Åstorp. There is a viewpoint at Björnekulla klint with views of the northern part of Helsingborg and the western parts of Åstorp.
Trails for Exercise and Navigation
Tingvalla recreation area has six trails for hiking or jogging. A specific distance is given for the “Brottets bana” trail: it is 3.9 kilometres long and loops around the quarry. The Makadamrundan offers views over the quarry. Perslund’s local heritage centre includes a fully functioning Dutch windmill. Its construction includes millstones, shafts, wooden gears, sail-covered sails and a hoist for flour sacks. Björnekulla Church was inaugurated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1889. It is a Neo-Gothic brick cruciform church with a rendered and whitewashed façade. Its features include choir windows designed and painted by artist Erik Olsson of the Halmstad Group as a triptych. A triumphal cross from the later 13th century now stands as the “entrance” to the choir. The church also preserves an early 13th-century baptismal font, transferred from the old church. Together, the building’s history and its features reveal several historical layers, from the early Middle Ages to the inauguration of the present church.

When visiting the underground air defence group command centre in Åstorp, it is important to consider access: entry is via a relatively long, steep staircase, and there is no other entrance.
