Kvidinge offers two distinct areas to focus on when planning your stay: landscapes and trails, and church architecture and local history. The six-kilometre Kvidingeprofilen combines nature and cultural experiences; there are also individual places with specific architectural and historical details. You can tailor your choices to the topics you would like to focus on most.
Nature and trails
Prästamarken lies north of Kvidinge and is a species-rich deciduous forest classified as a key biotope. Prästamarken, near Kvidinge, has a 1,200-metre, mostly flat exercise trail. Its length may change if the infrastructure is redesigned. This makes it the shorter route compared with the six-kilometre Kvidingeprofilen.
Kvidingeprofilen offers varied nature and cultural experiences that illustrate Kvidinge’s historical role in Skåne and Åstorps kommun. Those wishing to explore nature and history as part of one trail will find this combination explicitly in Kvidingeprofilen. Its six kilometres are clearly distinct from the shorter exercise trail in Prästamarken.
Tomarps ene is a scenic area with beautiful oak trees covering its slopes. The Rönneå River and the canoe trail pass through the area. Alongside Prästamarken’s species-rich deciduous forest, this offers oak-covered slopes, as well as a named river and canoe trail, as distinct landscape themes.
There is a camping spot with a wind shelter near Tomarps Ene in Kvidinge. This also identifies a specific place to stay as part of planning a nature-focused trip.
Church architecture and local history
Kvidinge kyrka was inaugurated in 1886 and built in the Neo-Gothic style. Caroli kyrka in Malmö served as its model. Its style and the named model are two distinct clues to the church’s architectural history.
The surviving furnishings include an altarpiece from 1708–09, made by the woodcarver Gustaf Kilman of Borås, and a chandelier from the 17th century. The furnishings thus bring together different periods: the chandelier dates from an earlier century than the altarpiece, and both are older than the church’s inauguration. This makes it possible to distinguish the dates of the church’s construction and its surviving furnishings.
Right next to Kvidinge kyrka stands Gyllenbielkeska hospitalet, a well-preserved red-brick building dating from around 1730. Kvidinge Sockens Hembygdsförening runs the Museum Gyllenbielkeska hospitalet at the church. The church grounds thus bring together the Neo-Gothic church and a much older building from the early 18th century.
Tomarps kungsgĂĄrd offers a distinct architectural history highlight: this Renaissance castle dates from the 17th century and is a listed state building. Its classification as a Renaissance building and its listed status add another perspective to the other historical themes.
In the early 19th century, Kvidinge hed was a training ground for Norra SkĂĄnska kavalleriregementet. In 1810, Crown Prince Carl August fell from his horse there and died. The heath thus brings together a military use and a specific historical event.
When planning your trip, you can compare the nature and cultural themes of Kvidingeprofilen with the individual landscape and history topics. The shorter, mostly flat trail in Prästamarken offers a different scale of walk; the church, museum, and historic sites provide their own points of interest for a trip with a stronger focus on cultural history.
