Strömsnäsbruk offers three clear starting points for a stay: the seasonal Strömsnäsbadet, trails through the countryside and the heritage of the former narrow-gauge railway. The trails are easiest to distinguish by their starting points and landmarks; the railway history comes to life at the station site. This lets you choose your focus based on your interests: swimming, outdoor activities or cultural history.

Summer at Strömsnäsbadet

Strömsnäsbadet is a popular outdoor swimming pool that offers opportunities for play, exercise and relaxation during the summer season. The site has water slides, four outdoor showers and a large lawn for relaxing and playing. If you are planning your visit in advance, check the current seasonal information; details of seasonal operations may change.

Trails with different landmarks

Near Graalstugan, which is run by Sportklubben Graal, there is an approximately 2.5-kilometre illuminated circular trail. It passes through gently rolling terrain on soft ground and is surrounded by forest. The approximate length gives you a clear idea of how long the walk is; the terrain, surface and forest also shape the character of the route.

Kvarnaholmsrundan is a hiking trail around Lake Hammarsjön in Strömsnäsbruk. Along the lake’s western shore, it leads to Kvarnaholms kraftverk and then back through Strömsnäsbruk. On the loop near Graalstugan, the length, lighting and terrain help you find your bearings; on Kvarnaholmsrundan, the landmarks are the lakeshore, the power station and the return through town.

Kylhultsrundan starts at Strömsnäsbadet, passes through the forest and emerges again above the Strömsborg sports ground. The walk on Hälsans stig can also start at the outdoor pool and passes Scoutstugan. This gives you two clearly different routes to choose from: forest and sports ground on Kylhultsrundan, and Scoutstugan on Hälsans stig. As trail conditions may change, check the current situation before setting out.

There is a rest area in Axhult with a barbecue grill and toilet. Check before your visit whether these facilities are still available.

Narrow-gauge railway and association history

The Skåne-Smålands Järnvägsförening was founded in Strömsnäsbruk on 28 May 1986 to preserve the former railway environment along the Skåne-Smålands Järnväg. The railway line ran from Kärreberga in Skåne to Värnamo in Småland; its preservation efforts included railway vehicles and buildings.

The preserved station environment in Strömsnäsbruk includes a steam locomotive and a replica of a passenger carriage from the former Strömsnäs–Delaryd narrow-gauge railway. Its unusual track gauge is 643 millimetres. Track gauge is the distance between the rails—a specific technical detail that brings the railway’s distinctive character to life.

Today, the association owns the station building and engine sheds in Strömsnäsbruk and Traryd, together with the surrounding properties in both places.
