There are different interests to consider when planning a stay in Markaryd: an illuminated trail through varied natural surroundings, longer routes through forests and along bodies of water, heated pools, and cultural and historical topics at Markaryd’s Hembygdspark. You can organise your options by route length and theme. This lets you decide in advance whether to focus on the 2.5-kilometre trail, a longer stretch between Markaryd and Traryd, the swimming facilities, or the history of the dwelling, smithy and collection.

Routes and nature

The illuminated trail near Sparbanksparken in Markaryd is 2.5 kilometres long and passes through beautiful, varied natural surroundings. The Markaryd–Traryd pilgrimage route on Nydalaleden and S:t Birgittavägarna is considerably longer, at 19.7 kilometres. It passes through forests and along bodies of water, with places to rest and reflect along the way. The two distances make the difference between the routes clear. They also have different characters: one is an illuminated trail through varied natural surroundings; the other is a longer stretch featuring forests, bodies of water and places to rest.

Hälsans stig adds specific information about nature to the route options. Birds find habitats in the forest areas along the route, and the lakes along the way are rich in fish. If you are interested in birdlife or bodies of water, these details offer a useful point of reference beyond the distance in kilometres.

In the wider region around Markaryd, Lagaleden stretches for 150 kilometres. It runs from Lake Bolmen via the Bolmån and Lake Exen, then follows the Lagaån to Laholmsbukten. Along the route there are around 30 signposted campsites with waste bins, toilets and firewood; many also have a shelter for overnight stays. Compared with the Markaryd–Traryd stretch, Lagaleden is an extensive regional route where the designated campsites are as relevant as the route itself.

Swimming facility in Markaryd

Hannabadet is one of the Municipality of Markaryd’s two swimming facilities and has heated pools. If you plan to include a visit to the swimming facilities, check the current opening hours in advance.

History at Markaryds Hembygdspark

Markaryds Hembygdspark is home to a former soldiers’ dwelling from Ekön in Hinneryd. It was dismantled in 1924, transported to Markaryd and rebuilt in the park. The park’s smithy contains tools and furnishings from the smithy of the estate smith Victor Leijon in Hallaryd and from master blacksmith Axel Johansson’s smithy in Ulvsbäck. The dwelling’s history includes its relocation; for the smithy, the origins of its contents and the craftspeople who used them are specified.

The Ediinska paviljongen at Markaryds Hembygdspark housed a collection of around 400 pieces of furniture and art. The pavilion is currently closed; its collections are being kept in safe storage.
