The church surroundings of Hallaryd lie in hilly terrain that slopes down towards the Helge å and the Lillån. Much of the irregular layout of older parish centres has been preserved in the church village. This offers two different perspectives on Hallaryd: the landscape around the church and the village’s organically developed layout.

Church Village and Building History

The buildings have largely retained their character from around the turn of the century. Hallaryds kyrkby is one of the few parish centres of this kind in the county. Hallaryds kyrka was built of stone in the Neoclassical style in 1862–1863, based on plans by architect Ludvig Hedin. A visit therefore takes in both the preserved overall layout of the church village and the building history of a structure with a specific date.

Hallarydsdagen, held every June, is part of the annual cultural calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance.

Cultural Trails and Routes Through the Landscape

A cultural trail with information boards about Hallarum runs two kilometres west of Hallaryd. Kärleksstigen offers a different experience: this short cultural trail follows the river and starts at Hallaryd Heritage Park. In Hallaryd, two walking loops begin at the sports ground, one 1.5 kilometres long and the other 3 kilometres. Both start at the same place; you can choose the shorter or longer route according to the stated distance.

The Hallaryd nature trail follows the Helge å and passes through the forest. Yellow arrows and markings on the trees show the way. The routes therefore differ in both theme and landscape: Hallarum is the focus of the cultural trail, while other routes follow the river or pass through the forest.

Fishing and Cycling

Hallarydsforsen is an approximately 700-metre-long fly-fishing stretch with catch-and-release fishing; it starts at the road bridge in Hallaryd. The Hallaryd–Visseltofta fish conservation area also offers the opportunity to fly-fish for trout. Fishing permits for this area can be purchased online or at Älmhult Municipality’s service centre. If you would like to fish there, check the fishing permit rules in advance. The information distinguishes a specific catch-and-release stretch from the trout-fishing option in the conservation area.

The Hallarydsrundan is an easy 29-kilometre cycling loop along the Helge å. It runs from Småland into Skåne and back again. You could choose Hallaryd church as a suggested starting point. Comparing the walking loops and the cycling route by distance gives you two walking options of different lengths and a considerably longer cycling tour. The route is also characterised by its course between Småland and Skåne.
