Loftahammar is surrounded by more than 200 islands, islets and skerries in the Norra Tjust skärgård nature reserve. This makes the archipelago a natural focus when planning a trip; walking and cycling routes, as well as church history, offer other topics to explore. When choosing a stay in Loftahammar, you can first decide whether you want to focus on the water, activities on land or culture.
The archipelago and the water

Since 1983, Loftahammar has been connected by the Bjursundsbron bridge; before that, the crossing was made by ferry.
Walking and cycling routes
The Loftahammar Xrundan is about 2.7 kilometres long and runs along asphalt, grass paths and an exercise loop. There are also hiking trails in Loftahammar. The Lofthammars cykelrunda cycling route starts in the centre and passes through deep forests and across open fields, with views across the landscape. The two routes offer different experiences: the Xrundan focuses on its approximate length and surfaces, while the cycling route highlights forests, open fields and views.
Summer activities
Every summer, the Loftahammar sailing club runs a sailing school for children and adults. Activities include sailing lessons, knot-tying practice, swimming and games. So, alongside sailing, the programme includes practical exercises and leisure time by the water. If you are planning a summer visit, it is worth checking the specific dates in the summer programme. The Vivassen runt running race is also part of Loftahammar’s summer programme.
Church, art and local history
The construction history of Loftahammars kyrka spans several decades: the church interior was completed in 1760, and the church was consecrated in 1764. The Wahlberg organ was built in 1767, remains in its original location and is almost in its original condition. The tower was built between 1775 and 1777. The sequence of the church interior, consecration, organ and tower illustrates the development in distinct stages. Four years elapsed between completion and consecration.
Svanhuset is an art gallery in Loftahammar that exhibits works by local and international artists. Check the current opening arrangements before visiting.
Historically, Loftahammar’s livelihood came from fishing and farming. Around the turn of the century, people travelled to Loftahammar and Källviks brunn to enjoy the sea air and relax. The local history therefore brings together two distinct themes: fishing and farming as historical livelihoods, and travel for recreation.
