Hjorted lies by Lake Hjorten and is surrounded by hilly woodland dotted with numerous small lakes. Options range from a short loop and longer hikes to points of interest in local history. You can tailor your stay to whether you want to focus on exercise, scenery or local history.
Short Trails in Hjorted
The Hjorted Xrundan starts at Generationsparken, follows a counterclockwise route and is about 2.1 kilometres long. It runs along paved and gravel paths. Check the latest route status before setting out if you plan to do this loop.
There is also a nature area with a short fitness trail behind the school in Hjorted. This trail offers another way to include exercise and nature in your plans. The short loop and fitness trail are two local options, while the longer routes cover more distance.
Hikes and Choosing a Route
Hjorteds hembygdsförening organises hikes through different parts of the Hjorted parish in spring and autumn. Along the way, participants follow traces of the area’s settlement history. These hikes offer a historical perspective on the parish; the longer routes, by contrast, are primarily about the route itself and planning your stages.
The second stage of Tjustleden runs from Getgölen in the south to Svarteström in the north, passing through Hjorted. It is about 18 kilometres long. There is also the option of connecting to Ankarsrumsslingan.
Rundslinga Hjorted is a suggested route that partly follows stage 2 of Tjustleden before returning to Hjorted. It is 18.1 kilometres long. It is therefore close in length to the approximately 18-kilometre stage, but follows a different route: Rundslinga returns to Hjorted, while the stage runs from Getgölen to Svarteström. The main factor in choosing between them is whether you want to plan a circular route returning to Hjorted or a stage with the stated start and end points.
Local History and Culture
A church village developed at the northern end of the bridge in Hjorted. Hjorted Church, also known as Sofia Magdalena Church, was built between 1775 and 1778 and consecrated in 1780. The area’s history can thus be explored through two specific points: the development of the church village at the end of the bridge and the church’s construction and consecration.
The Moped Museum in Hjorted has closed permanently, and its entire collection was auctioned off. The closure was reported on 19 September 2024.
Practical Information for Your Visit
The municipal bathing spot in Hjorted has a barbecue area, changing rooms and a toilet. It is another specific place to visit, in addition to the trails and hiking routes.
The local grocery store also serves as a municipal service point. You can get information there from the municipality and about nearby places to visit. If you need local information, you can combine your grocery shopping with a visit to the service point.
