Wooden sculptures, ship models and colorful murals give Oskarshamn a range of cultural highlights, while coastal trails and exercise routes add outdoor activities. When planning your visit, you can choose between art and history, a walk along the coast, or exercise on longer routes.

Woodcarving, Shipping and a Manor House

The Döderhultarmuseet displays a unique collection of nearly 200 of Döderhultarn’s finest wooden sculptures. Its strong focus on woodcarving sets the museum apart from the city’s maritime collections. Groups can book guided tours of the Döderhultarmuseet.

The Sjöfartsmuseet offers insights into the development of shipping in the Oskarshamn region. Its exhibits include items related to specialized crafts, ship models and navigational equipment. A large children’s play area adds to the experience: in the galley and wheelhouse of the ship Thyra, children can pretend to cook and steer a ship at sea.

The Båt- och maskinmuseet at Norra Kajen also showcases maritime history. It displays wooden workboats built at various shipyards in Oskarshamn Municipality. The museum ship Nalle is moored outside the museum in Oskarshamn harbor. Together, the boats and navigational equipment offer insights into different aspects of seafaring, while the museums cover distinct themes.

The grand interiors of Fredriksbergs herrgård offer a different cultural and historical focus. They showcase examples of architecture, art and furniture from the Gustavian era. Fredriksbergs herrgård was built in 1783 by cavalry captain Peter Reincke Cederbaum and his wife, Maria Fredrika Wernberg. The manor house also houses an 18th-century mineral collection.

Street Art in the City

Oskarshamn Street Art features colorful murals by world-renowned artists on building walls and in public spaces. The project began in 2020. You can enjoy an urban art walk between the murals; the large-scale public art is accessible around the clock, all year round. This makes street art a focus in its own right alongside museum visits, without the need to plan around a set visiting time.

Coastal Trails and Exercise

Uvö offers a beautiful walking trail along the coast and lies just south of Saltvik in Oskarshamn. The nature trail on Uvö is about 2.2 kilometers long and takes approximately 45 minutes at a brisk pace. There is a parking area at the end of Rotviksvägen, just before the bridge to Uvö. This gives you both an approximate walking time and a specific landmark to help plan your visit.

The Havslätt outdoor recreation area has three trails measuring 7.3, 5.0 and 2.4 kilometers. The shortest trail is lit. If you’re choosing routes by length, you can pick from three distances here; an approximate walking time at a brisk pace is also given for the nature trail on Uvö.

Mountain biking is also among the activities on offer: there are three trails behind Oskarshamn Hospital, varying in length and difficulty. They offer a different kind of activity from the walking trails, making them a good fit for plans centered on exercise. If you’re weighing up culture and outdoor activities, Oskarshamn offers a range of concrete options, from woodcarving and shipping to coastal trails, street art and mountain biking.
