Figeholm combines forest walks with maritime history. In the nature reserve, narrow paths wind through dense forest; the museum in the warehouse and the local sailing tradition add culture and sailing to the mix. The traditional sailing week in particular makes the choice of travel dates relevant.

Forest and Paths by the Water

In the Figeholm nature reserve, you can walk along narrow paths through dense forest. Another walk follows the Norrån watercourse, past Hamnmagasinet and on to a body of water created by local residents. The two walking routes offer different experiences: one leads through the forest, while the other follows a route along the water. You can plan your time in nature based on whether you find the forest path or the specific route by the water more appealing.

The Stenhagen grove is now part of the Figeholm Natura 2000 area and is another named natural feature. Figeholm also has a 200-square-metre outdoor gym made of larch wood, built in 2020. Its size, material, and year of construction distinguish it from the landscape and trail descriptions.

Maritime History and the Local Scene

Figeholm was once home to hundreds of sailing ships. The Figeholm Maritime Museum is housed in a two-storey warehouse dating from the early 19th century. The town’s maritime past is brought to life both by its former role and by a historic building. Many well-preserved houses and surroundings invite you to take in the character of the town. There are also a few small, picturesque fishing huts near the shop. The contrast between the two-storey warehouse and the small fishing huts shows two different scales of the built environment.

Sailing and Practical Planning

The Figeholm Båtklubb has run sailing schools in Figeholm since the 1970s. Its traditional sailing week takes place during the first week of the summer holidays on the club-owned island of Seglarholmen; the exact dates vary from year to year. If you would like to plan your trip around this week, check the dates for the relevant year in advance. The sailing school and summer holiday week give the maritime experience a more active and time-specific focus than the history of ships. The time references differ: the ships are explicitly part of the past, while the club’s sailing schools date back to the 1970s.

Figeholm’s guest harbour has 30 berths for visiting boats, 10 of them in the outer harbour. This capacity may change. If a guest berth is important to your travel plans, check the information in advance. The sailing week dates and harbour capacity concern different decisions: one affects the timing of your trip, the other the planning of a guest berth. Bredviken campsite is right on the shore.
