Fårbo can be explored through a range of travel interests: the illuminated running trail in the village, the bathing area at Fårbosjön and the Ostkustleden as a longer hiking route in the surrounding area. It is also located on the E22 and has a distinctive landform. This brings local exercise, time by the water and a longer hike together as separate planning priorities.
Location and orientation
Fårbo is located on the E22, about 15 kilometres north of Oskarshamn. Its road location and approximate distance are two different points of reference: they help you place the village geographically before planning around specific activities. If you are also including Oskarshamn, the north–south location gives you an initial way to compare the two places.
Bathing area at Fårbosjön
The bathing area at Fårbosjön has a sandy beach and a bathing jetty. Facilities also include a diving tower, barbecue area and partner swing. There is also a small car park and a pit latrine. The beach, jetty and diving tower define the bathing area; the barbecue area and partner swing add to what is available at the same location. If you are travelling by car, you can take the small car park into account when planning. This lets you assess the bathing area not only by its waterside location, but also by the facilities listed.
Running trail and Ostkustleden
There are two scales of exercise on land. Fårbo has a 2.4-kilometre illuminated running trail. The Ostkustleden is about 160 kilometres long and divided into eight sections. The total length describes the route as a whole; the sections provide an additional structure for planning. You can start your hike at any point and end it at any point. Choosing your own start and end points gives you flexibility, rather than requiring you to plan the entire route as a fixed itinerary. In the wider regional area, the Ostkustleden is marked in yellow-orange. It crosses the E22 and leads to Fårbosjön, with its beautiful bathing beaches.
Landscape and prehistory
Southeast of Fårbo, the Tuna-Fårboåsen forms a high, distinctive ridge. Large prehistoric stone mounds are located on the ridge and to its west. This landform and the archaeological traces add a landscape and historical context to the local recreational opportunities. If you are interested in prehistory as well as exercise and water, both aspects offer another perspective on the area.
Choose the focus of your stay
The running trail is a clearly defined local option, while the hiking route offers a larger-scale plan divided into sections. On the Ostkustleden, you can choose your start and end points; if you want to hike, first decide which stretch suits your stay. Then find accommodation to match your plans and check current availability when booking.
