Rossön brings together architectural history and regional collections with activities by the lakes and in winter. Bodum Church, the museums and Lake Bodum give the area its cultural and scenic character. Nearby, the ski stadium, golf course and route to Ruckastenen offer different ways to spend time outdoors. When looking for a holiday apartment, the main consideration is which side of Rossön you want to shape your trip.
Church, Farmsteads and Collections
Bodum Church stands out for its cruciform layout, unusual for the area, with a centrally positioned tower. The building is 32 metres long, 22 metres wide and 28 metres high. The church was built in 1884 to replace a smaller wooden church dating from 1799. The pulpit also has its own historical significance: it bears the year 1630 and is considered the oldest pulpit in Ångermanland. The church brings together a striking layout and architectural details from different centuries.
On Hällnäset in Rossön, Bodum Local Heritage Farm comprises the former “småskolan” and several older buildings. It also houses an extensive museum of everyday objects. The heritage farm includes a bakehouse that can be hired for gatherings and for baking tunnbröd. The buildings, everyday objects and use of the bakehouse each offer a different way to explore local history.
Rossön Stone Age Museum adds archaeological themes to these historic sites. The collection includes objects from around 120 settlement sites dating from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. It covers the parishes of Fjällsjö, Bodum and Tåsjö. This extends the focus beyond individual buildings to traces of settlement from several periods and parts of the region.
Lakes, Waterways and Fishing
Rossön is surrounded by lakes and waterways. Lake Bodum has a coastal landscape of islands, islets and bays. The lake-rich surroundings offer good fishing waters in the Fjällsjöälven river system. In Rossön, the landscape and fishing are closely connected, while Lake Bodum’s islands and bays make it a distinctive scenic feature in its own right.
For fishing trips, a boat can be rented through the Rossön Fishing Conservation Area. Book by phone on 072-526 01 00 or by email at rossonfvo@gmail.com. Those planning to fish can find both the waters and an option for renting a boat here.
Ski Trails, Golf and the Route to Ruckastenen
In winter, Rossöns IF’s ski stadium in the area offers lit trails of 2.6 kilometres, 1.8 kilometres and 0.6 kilometres. There is also a 5-kilometre loop for both classic and freestyle cross-country skiing. The different trail lengths offer a range of options for winter sports; seasonal conditions may vary.
The area’s sporting history also has a historic milestone: the Sigvard Jonssons Minne ski race was first held in 1971 at Nagasjön, just outside Rossön. This date is part of the race’s history and adds an earlier point of reference to current descriptions of winter sports.
Rossön Golf Course is in the village of Näset, one kilometre outside Rossön, by the Näsån. The course has nine holes, 18 teeing grounds and a par of 72. There is also a driving range and putting green by the clubhouse. Its location and course details make golf another clearly defined activity in the Rossön area.
In the Rossön area, the route to Ruckastenen crosses a marsh and is about 2 to 3 kilometres long. It complements the ski trails and golf course with a route over different terrain and a shorter stated distance. This makes it easy to compare different interests when planning a trip: winter sports, golf, a walk to Ruckastenen or cultural attractions in the area.
