A regional plant collection, Frostviken's nature and culture perspective, and specific hiking destinations give Gäddede several distinct points of interest. Frostviken's Nature Information Centre combines a focus on nature with cultural topics; Muruhatten and Brännklumpen represent hiking and viewpoints, while Vildmarksvägen places the town on a 500-kilometre circular route. This lets you first decide whether to focus on a local excursion or the larger road trip.

Nature and Culture in Frostviken

Frostviken's Fjällpark is located at the tourist information centre in Gäddede, where plants from the region are on display. Frostviken's Nature Information Centre is in the same premises as the tourist information centre and library. It gives visitors an impression of Frostviken's nature and culture. Visitors can also do a “provkryp” in Korallgrottan at the Nature Information Centre. Alongside the broader nature and culture perspective, this offers a specific activity connected with Korallgrottan.

Hiking Destinations and Trails in Gäddede

Muruhatten and Brännklumpen are two specific points of reference for hiking. Muruhatten is a distinctive terrain feature west of Gäddede, towards the Norwegian border. A hike there can start at the school in Gäddede; by the shelter on the illuminated trail, there is a blue starting cross and an information sheet. This identifies both a possible starting point and route guidance, as well as the destination's location.

Brännklumpen is a beautiful and easily accessible viewpoint in the Brattli area of Gäddede, offering views over large parts of Frostviken. Depending on the route chosen, the trail there is about 1 to 1.5 km long. If trail length matters to your choice, take the route selection into account: the figure is an approximate range, not one fixed value. Two ski and fitness trails start at Frostviksskolan in the town centre.

Vildmarksvägen as a Longer Road Trip

Vildmarksvägen is a 500-kilometre circular route: it runs from Strömsund in northern Jämtland via Gäddede to Vilhelmina in southern Lapland, and connects to the E45 via Dorotea. Gäddede is therefore on the route described; Dorotea is the reference point for the connection to the E45.

The entire route can be driven from 6 June to 15 October. If you are planning the full loop, check your travel dates against this time frame. Scenic Vildmarksvägen is Sweden's highest paved road; its highest point is 876 metres above sea level. Compared with the approximately 1 to 1.5 km trail to Brännklumpen, whose length depends on the route, the 500-kilometre loop covers a very different scale.
