If you are considering Nälden as a travel destination, you can plan your stay around different themes: classic ski trails, sections of the St. Olav’s Path, the lakeside area at Nälden’s bathing place, or local history. This lets you tailor your travel plans to specific routes, seasonal conditions or historical connections. The Faxån links the landscape with local history: its water power laid the foundation for Nälden’s wool mill, and the St. Olav’s Path follows the river on its way to Vaplan.

Ski trails and sports

Näldens IF offers 3.2 km of lit classic ski trails and a further 5.2 km in the fields by the water tower. Conditions vary by season. If cross-country skiing is your main focus, take these conditions into account when planning your trip. Dogs are allowed on Näldens IF’s skating trails in the fields and on groomed trails.

The Näskotthallen sports halls in Nälden can be booked through the Näldens IF office. This gives you a specific booking option for the halls in addition to the ski trails.

Lakeside and the St. Olav’s Path

The lakeside area at Nälden’s bathing place has sand, stones and grass, as well as a bathing jetty. The St. Olav’s Path offers a different way to explore the area: the Nälden–Glösa section is about 15 km long. This distance refers to the section, not the entire trail.

Starting in Nälden, the St. Olav’s Path follows the Faxån to Vaplan and then continues along Kustvägen beside Lake Alsensjön. The trail also passes through the forest on old village roads to Valne. The river, the stretch along Lake Alsensjön and the forest path therefore offer different landscape features.

The distances should not be read as a single route: 3.2 km and a further 5.2 km refer to the ski trails, while about 15 km is the length of the Nälden–Glösa section. This distinction helps you understand the different routes when planning your trip.

Local history and former routes

Nälden’s wool mill was founded in 1863; the water power of the Faxån laid the foundation for its operation. Nälden’s community centre was built by the Good Templars in 1901. The dates refer to different events: the founding of a business and the construction of a building.

Former transport links are also part of local history: the steamer Nälden operated on Lake Näldsjön between Änge and Nälden and had its harbour at Nälden station. The business, the building and the transport service thus offer three distinct ways to explore the history of the area.
