Dvärsätt lies 17 kilometres northwest of Östersund, on the northeastern bay of Lake Storsjön. Golf, the shoreline and local history are the themes that bring the area together: Sandnäset Golfklubb is located in Dvärsätt, and by the water there is both a walking trail and a marina.
Golf course, winter ski track and clubhouse
Sandnäset Golfklubb has a 13-hole golf course. The course is close to nature and hilly, combining woodland and parkland character; it offers beautiful views of Lake Storsjön and the mountains. The number of holes and the landscape give the golf offering a distinct character. If golf is important to your trip, check the current course layout before travelling.
In winter, there is an approximately four-kilometre ski track in the golf course area. This is the location’s explicitly seasonal winter sports feature. Since you should check whether the track is groomed before your trip, it is advisable to make a current enquiry before arrival.
The clubhouse has a parking area for motorhomes and caravans, as well as access to a toilet and shower. Confirm availability before you arrive. The food offering is also seasonal: hot meals, sandwiches, sausages, salads and fika are served there throughout the season. Check whether the clubhouse is open before visiting. For travellers with a motorhome or caravan, this brings together specific facilities and a seasonal food offering in one place.
Shoreline, marina and fishing
The old main road through Dvärsätt is now a walking trail along the shore. This gives a former transport route a different role in the area: it is now a path beside the water. The large marina is also linked to the former timber rafting industry. Together, the walking trail and marina show different sides of the area’s shoreline history, without requiring you to plan a specific route.
The location of the waters is also important for fishing. The Hissmofors Fishing Area includes the outflow waters of Lake Storsjön. These include the Indalsälven River from Dvärsätt downstream to the north through Krokom. The area is considered accessible year-round; before fishing, however, check the area boundaries, access and any seasonal restrictions.
Local history and cultural walk
Dvärsätt is first mentioned in a letter dating from 1431. Another chapter in the area’s history began when the railway opened to traffic in 1882: Dvärsätt subsequently got a railway stop and a post office.
Before the bridges were built, a ferry was used to cross from Dvärsätt to Rödön. The old main road, now a shoreline trail, is another tangible connection to the area’s transport history. A 2024 report by a local heritage association also documents a cultural walk through Nyland in Dvärsätt. The tour visited the farms Bergom, Nyland and Tomte, and local history and interesting facts were shared with guests. The reported walk also included seeing alpacas grazing at one of the farms.
