Åkersjön offers a choice of ski resort, mountain trails, fishing and nature experiences. When planning your trip, it helps to treat these as different options rather than trying to fit every activity into one day. The Drivan restaurant at Åkersjön’s ski resort serves coffee and meals. Åkersjön’s campsite is located right next to the ski resort. If you base your accommodation search around the ski resort, this location provides a specific point of reference.

Ski Resort, Trails and Routes

The Önruleden is considered easy to hike and offers far-reaching views. It is about 1.5 km from the wind shelter to the summit of Önrun. The Jämtkraftspåret runs for 18.6 km between Åkersjön and Bakvattnet; check its grooming status before your trip. The marked Blomsterleden leads from the mountain village of Bakvattnet to Mount Ansätten and is 6 km long. Along this trail are 11 digital flower stations with signs and QR codes. The Blomsterleden is closed until further notice because defective footbridges could cause injuries. Check before your trip whether the closure is still in effect. The three routes differ in more than just length: the Önruleden focuses on views and easy hiking, the Jämtkraftspåret on the route between Åkersjön and Bakvattnet, and the Blomsterleden on its flower stations. The summit details refer to different mountains: the Önruleden leads to Önrun, while 1,090 m is the elevation of Ansätten’s highest summit, which the Blomsterleden leads to.

Plant Diversity and Summits

Oldflån-Flån is a Natura 2000 site. In the Oldflån–Ansätten area, a total of 214 different species of flowers, shrubs and trees were recorded in 2016. There is another approximate plant count for the Ansätten area: about 250 vascular plant species. The two figures refer to differently named areas and plant categories, so they are not directly comparable. Ansätten’s highest summit is 1,090 m above sea level. Flower walks are held every year in the Oldflån–Ansätten area. If you would like to include one of these events, check the specific dates in advance.

Fishing in Åkersjön and Åkerån

You can fish for Arctic char and trout in Lake Åkersjön. The Åkerån River offers trout fishing along almost 10 km of river. Ice fishing for Arctic char in Åkersjön is also extensive. The options can be distinguished by body of water, fish species and season: the lake offers Arctic char and trout, the river offers trout fishing, and in winter the focus at the lake is on Arctic char.

Åkersjön’s Skiing History

Organized ski trips took place in Åkersjön in the early 1930s. Tourism began in the late 1950s, including on Mount Önrun. The chronological distinction matters: organized ski trips took place before the later start of tourism. These two details mark different stages in the history of the area and add a historical perspective to today’s questions about trails, nature and fishing.
