The Grönslinga is 1.5 kilometres long and returns via the suspension bridge over the Fössan. The Lilla brorundan also leads to this bridge. In Lillhärdal, the trails are complemented by cultural history and recurring events – different starting points for tailoring your stay to your own interests.

Church, Högen and remembrance

The buildings at the Högen farm date from the 17th century to the early 20th century. The older dwelling, the Gammelstuga, was built in 1776. Construction of Lillhärdal Church began as early as the 15th century; it also has structural elements from the 18th and 19th centuries. Thus, a dwelling specifically dated to 1776 and a church building with structural elements from several centuries offer different historical perspectives.

The “Häxornas tid” Witch Museum presents the history of the witch trials in Lillhärdal. Just outside the village, on Spångmyrsholmen, there is a memorial stone to the trials. Along the path that continues beyond the stone is a reconstructed execution site. The smaller Hamre Skans is a defensive fortification against the Danes and was probably built in 1788. The subject has three distinct points of reference: the presentation of the history of the trials in the museum, the memorial stone on Spångmyrsholmen and the reconstructed execution site along the path beyond it.

Events with different calendar dates

Bönmåndagen is observed in Lillhärdal on the second Monday in October with a church service followed by a mission auction. The tradition is still maintained today. Härdalsveckan takes place every year in calendar week 29 and offers a varied programme for visitors and residents. Individual programme items may change from year to year. These are two possible occasions to attend events at different times of the year. If you plan your trip around Härdalsveckan, check the programme for that year.

Trails, winter and the river

The Lilla brorundan starts at Härdalsbua ICA. There are parking spaces, somewhere to have a coffee, toilets, and tables and benches. The Romboleden is 20 Swedish miles long and runs through Härjedalen. In Lillhärdal, Västerås stift works with local trail coordinators to coordinate it. The trails differ in scale: the Lilla brorundan starts at Härdalsbua ICA, while the Romboleden runs for 20 Swedish miles through Härjedalen.

Winter also offers activities of its own: at Lillhärdal's ski stadium, groomed cross-country ski trails are available for competitive and recreational skiers. Dog-sledding trails also run around Lillhärdal, offering views of the mountain landscape from behind the dogs. Another activity on the water is Fössa, a standalone natural swimming spot in the Härjeån river. Trails, cross-country skiing, dog sledding and swimming are therefore different themes to consider when planning your trip.
