Duved brings together winter activities and a clear historical legacy. The Cross-Country Arena has five trails, while the Duved and Tegefjäll ski area has mostly red and blue slopes. The church, fortification and monument offer a different perspective on the town. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these different highlights separately.

Cross-country skiing and alpine offerings

The Duved Cross-Country Arena has five different trails, with a total distance of just under 40 kilometres. Both skating and classic cross-country skiing are possible there. The trail network is complemented by a 400-metre technique and sprint track. It features turns and rollers, as well as short but steep climbs. The two offerings therefore differ in more than just length: the trails form several loops, while the short track concentrates technical features in a limited section.

For alpine winter sports, it is useful to know that the Duved and Tegefjäll ski area has mostly blue and red slopes. Duved also has a quiet beginner area with a button lift and a conveyor lift. The Snow Park includes jumps, rails and moguls, and opened in the 2022/23 season. These offerings have different focuses; the slope colours, beginner lifts and park features are therefore easier to consider individually than as one uniform offering.

The Duved and Tegefjäll ski area is located at the foot of Mullfjället in western Åredalen. Before your trip, check the latest trail grooming information, as well as the seasonal operation of the Snow Park and beginner area.

Church and places of remembrance

Duveds kyrka is a wooden cathedral with 900 seats; it was inaugurated in 1894. Another historical landmark is Duved skans: the fortification was built in 1700 during the Great Northern War and played a central role in that war.

The Karolinermonumentet in Duved was inaugurated in 1892. It commemorates the men who died while crossing the border mountains. The monument was designed by Ferdinand Boberg. The church, fortification and monument therefore represent different themes: the church’s design and seating capacity, the fortification’s role in Duved during the war, and the monument’s commemoration of those who died crossing the border mountains.

The dates also help distinguish these themes: Duved skans dates from 1700, while the monument and church were inaugurated in 1892 and 1894. The fortification is thus directly associated with the war period, while the monument preserves a specific memory and the church is described by its wooden construction and size.

Getting there by train

Duved railway station is on the Mittbanan line. It is served by Norrtåg services to Sundsvall, Östersund, Åre and Storlien. If train travel is an option for your trip, check the current timetable before setting off: train services and station arrangements can change.

This makes it possible to distinguish three different features of the town when planning: the trail network and its two skiing styles, the alpine offerings with their slopes and facilities, and the historic buildings and places of remembrance. You can decide which of these you want your trip to focus on before choosing where to stay as part of your planning. Also take into account the seasonal grooming and operation of the winter sports facilities mentioned above.
