A hiking trail almost 100 kilometres long and a connecting route of around 19 kilometres between two other trails offer different ways to plan a trip to Kinnared. There are also historic buildings and options for travelling by bus and train. You can start planning with hiking, cultural history or how to get there, depending on what you want to focus on during your stay.

Hiking trails and route planning

The Gislavedsleden is almost 100 km long and runs south from Kinnared to Isaberg in the north. It is marked in orange; along the trail, there are camping areas with wind shelters and toilets. This means that the trail’s markings and the facilities mentioned are also useful for finding your way, in addition to its long route. Check the route details before setting out on a longer hike.

The connecting route, around 19 km long, serves a different purpose: it links the Hallandsleden with the Smålandsleden just outside Kinnared in Hylte Municipality. The difference from the Gislavedsleden is therefore not just its length, but also its purpose: this route connects two named trails. When planning, you can first decide whether you want to focus on the long Gislavedsleden route or the link between the Hallandsleden and Smålandsleden.

The church and Högloftsstugan

Kinnared Church dates from the 12th century and stands on a hill overlooking Kyrkebol. Högloftsstugan, also known as Sjöbostugan, is another tourist attraction in Kinnared. It was probably built at the end of the 17th century. Sjöbostugan is another name for the same Högloftsstugan, not a second attraction. The dates refer to different periods: the church dates from the 12th century, while the late 17th century is the likely construction period for the stuga.

Location and getting there

Kinnared lies in the valley where Västerån and Österån merge to form Kilan. There is a bus service and a railway station in Kinnared. If you plan to travel by bus or train, check the options for your travel dates. The rivers indicate the town’s location; the bus service and railway station are relevant to planning your journey and answer a different question from its geographical location.

Choose accommodation based on your reason for travelling

When looking for a hotel in Kinnared, it helps to decide on the reason for your trip first. If hiking is the main focus of your stay, choose between the Gislavedsleden and the route connecting the Hallandsleden and Smålandsleden. If you are interested in cultural history, the church and Högloftsstugan, with their different historical contexts, take centre stage. When planning your journey, consider whether you want to travel by bus or train, and check the connections for your travel dates.
