Stånga combines specific sporting opportunities with notable historical themes. Gumbalde Resort also welcomes day visitors; Stånga Church was built entirely in the Middle Ages, and near Stånga Lojsta slott in the surrounding area is a reconstructed Iron Age farmstead. This gives you a choice of sports, architectural history and a glimpse of the Iron Age when planning your trip. The individual attractions vary considerably—from a golf course and traditional sports to a church and a cultural trail on the hillfort.

Sports, golf and regional cuisine

Gumbalde Resort in Stånga also welcomes day visitors to take part in its activities. The golf course was designed by Pierre Fulke. Two outdoor padel courts are located next to the resort. Golf and padel are thus offered as distinct sports.

Gumbalde’s restaurant is housed in a Gotland limestone building dating back to the 17th century. The restaurant aims to use seasonal ingredients grown locally. At Gumbalde, a historically distinctive building meets a culinary approach focused on seasonality and local sourcing.

Stangmalmen is a large sports ground in Stånga parish, where traditional sports such as pärk and varpa are played. It covers 115,000 square metres, equivalent to about 19 football pitches. Its scale makes the ground easy to picture, while its traditional sports also set it apart from golf and padel.

Stånga Bowlinghall is another sporting venue where you can go bowling. The hall hosts events including company parties and children’s birthday parties. Unlike golf, padel, pärk and varpa, bowling is the focus here, along with the types of events mentioned.

A church and Iron Age history in the surrounding area

Stånga Church was built entirely in the Middle Ages and is one of Gotland’s large churches. Its construction period and its description as a large church offer two distinct points of cultural and historical interest. For travellers interested in sacred architecture, the church is a clear highlight.

In the area around Stånga, near Stånga Lojsta slott, is Lojstahallen, a reconstructed Iron Age farmstead. There is also a cultural trail about 800 metres long on the hillfort at Stånga Lojsta slott. The farmstead and the trail offer different ways to explore history: a reconstructed farm and a path on the hillfort.

These themes also belong to different periods: the reconstructed farmstead represents the Iron Age, while Stånga Church was built entirely in the Middle Ages. This makes it possible to compare different periods and ways of presenting history.
