Vikarbyn offers several ways to spend time by the water and get active on land. A paddling trip on Lake Siljan can start at the boat jetty of Vikarbyns Båtklubb and follow the shoreline. On foot, you can choose between the 10 km Siljans strandvandring, which passes through Vikarbyn to Rättvik, and the Siljansleden, with its old summer-pasture paths. Lissand bathing beach and the outdoor gym with nine exercise stations at Lissand round out the options. That means you can choose anything from relaxing and swimming to a 10 km lakeside walk, hilly trails or getting out on the water.

By the water: a swimming break or a paddling trip

Vikarbyn’s small boat harbour has guest berths. Lissand bathing beach is about 1.5 km to the west. It’s a good place to relax and swim; check the conditions on site before your visit. A paddling trip on Lake Siljan can start at the boat jetty of Vikarbyns Båtklubb and follow the shoreline. Water conditions depend on the weather, so plan accordingly. The beach and paddling offer two different ways to enjoy the water: at Lissand, swimming and relaxation take centre stage; on Lake Siljan, it’s all about paddling along the shore.

Two routes with different character

Siljans strandvandring is an easy 10 km hiking trail. It passes through Vikarbyn along the shores of Lake Siljan to Rättvik, about 7 km away. Check route details on site before setting out. The Siljansleden has a different focus: it mainly follows old summer-pasture paths through a very hilly and impressive landscape. From Vikarbyn, the easiest way to reach it is via 3 km of gravel road to Granmor. The distances refer to different things: 10 km is the length of Siljans strandvandring, while 3 km is the access route along the gravel road to Granmor. The Siljansleden has designated rest and camping areas at suitable intervals. Check access via the gravel road before your hike, as local conditions can change. To choose between the routes, consider both the distance and access route, as well as the type of trail: an easy lakeside walk or hilly terrain with old paths.

Get active nearby

There’s also an outdoor gym with nine exercise stations at Lissand in Vikarbyn. It offers a place to work out, rather than exercise along a route. This is a different kind of activity from the 10 km trail or the hilly terrain of the Siljansleden. If you’re planning days with different focuses, you can choose from a named lakeside route, a scenic hiking trail and exercise stations; a swimming break and paddling add more options by the water.
