Enviken offers a range of cultural and nature experiences: Envikens gamla kyrka dates from 1671, while Envikens kyrka was inaugurated in 1957. There is also a lively 1950s culture, hiking trails and seasonal activities. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether you want to focus on local history, hiking, water activities or regional traditions.
Churches and local history
Almost three centuries separate the dates of the two churches. Envikens gamla kyrka is used for weddings, baptisms and summer entertainment events. The forestry museum at Görasgården depicts forestry in the Enviken region from the 1850s until mechanisation around 1960. This offers a look at local history, from church construction to changes in regional work.
At Görasgården, the local heritage association holds Midsummer celebrations and Göras Days, with various activities and coffee service; Görasgården is open during Advent. The forestry museum covers a longer historical period, while the events mark seasonal occasions. If you have a particular date in mind, check the latest event dates before your trip.
1950s culture and Enviksdagen
Enviken’s lively 1950s culture includes rockabilly, a record studio, a petrol station, a café, a hair salon, a vintage shop and cars. The themes range from music and vehicles to shops and other places from everyday life. These different elements of the culture offer several perspectives on the decade, rather than focusing on just one historical theme.
One special event in the annual calendar is Enviksdagen. It takes place on a Saturday in May and includes, among other things, a classic car rally, a flea market and activities for children. If you want to plan your trip around it, check the exact Saturday in advance.
Hiking and landscapes
In VĂĄckelberget Nature Reserve, a hiking trail of about 1.5 kilometres leads from the lower car park to the picnic area. For the final stretch, you can choose between Skogsleden and Klippleden. The route gives you a straightforward basis for planning your hike, as well as a specific choice of trail for the final section.
The nature reserve and forests of Våckelberget are home to, among other species, lime, maple, hazel, common toothwort, herb-Robert, wood meadow-grass, Solomon’s seal and mullein. These species are more common in southern Sweden. From the summit, the view stretches far across Lake Balungen to the bluish mountains on the horizon. There is also a section of the old pilgrimage route in Enviken.
Water activities and seasonal experiences
The Balungen–Runn canoe trail starts at Balungstrand. Marnäsån is one of the waterways near Enviken where fishing is good; a fishing permit is required. Canoeing and fishing offer different ways to enjoy the water, and if you plan to fish, remember to arrange the required permit.
At Grejsans fäbodar, there are native-breed goats from around Midsummer and throughout the height of summer. Small-scale fäbod products are also made and sold there in limited quantities. If you are interested in the goats and the production of these goods, plan your visit for this seasonal period.
