A tall waterfall, a dance pavilion and ski trails in Boda kyrkby give Böda its varied character. Nearby Styggforsen shapes the landscape with steep cliffs, beautiful views and interesting vegetation. Boda Gammelgård showcases buildings, collections and music history; Boda kyrka preserves remains of a medieval altarpiece from Rättvik Church. You can weigh up nature, cultural heritage and cross-country skiing as different interests for your stay.
Styggforsen waterfall and nature reserve
Near Böda, a 300-metre gravel path in the Styggforsen Nature Reserve leads to Getryggen below the waterfall. A barbecue area is located 150 metres along the path. The route combines a clear destination with a place to stop along the way. There are also designated barbecue areas in the nature reserve. A rest area and a toilet are by the car park; the café there is open seasonally in summer. If you plan to visit the café, bear in mind that it is only open seasonally. The barbecue area is halfway to the destination; from there, it is another 150 metres to Getryggen.
Boda Gammelgård: buildings, collection and music
Boda Gammelgård comprises about ten buildings, including a particularly beautiful dance pavilion. The collections contain around 1,500 objects. There are also organised events and courses, for example in dance and folk music. The dance pavilion and dance courses connect the site with dance, while the collection and folk music offer other cultural highlights. Check the dates of individual events and courses separately.
The history of the Bodastämman is also part of this musical heritage: during Music by Siljan Week, over nearly 50 years, it grew from an ordinary Friday dance at Boda Gammelgård into a major folk music event. It expanded considerably in the mid-1980s. This development—from a single dance evening to a large-scale event—adds a historical perspective to the themes of today’s courses and events.
Church and ski trails
Boda kyrka preserves the remains of a medieval altarpiece from Rättvik Church. An altarpiece is a structure placed above an altar; here, medieval parts have survived. The church is open for services and events, as well as when staff are on site. Check the calendar for specific visiting dates.
The ski trails in Boda kyrkby have several access points. Trail centres are located by Handlarn and at Silverbergsängarna. This places cross-country skiing alongside the short gravel path at Styggforsen as different ways to enjoy the outdoors: one option takes you along ski trails, the other to Getryggen below the waterfall. You can explore Böda according to your interest in winter activities, landscapes or cultural heritage.
