Bräkne-Hoby combines hiking trails in the Bräkneån Valley with a well-preserved historic parish centre and Svenmanska Park. This gives you different focal points for planning your trip: nature, outdoor activities, and cultural history. The routes vary in length and activities; regular train and bus services may also be important when choosing your destination.

Trails in the valley and a range of routes

The Bräkneån Valley in Bräkne-Hoby is an area of national interest, offering scenic hiking trails and opportunities for recreation. The Vildmarksleden trail passes through quiet forests with lakes and follows the valley. You can hike, cycle, or ride a horse along the route. It runs from Nordensköldsparken in Eringsboda to Svenmanska Park in Bräkne-Hoby.

Bräkneleden and the Bräkne-Hoby Byaslinga also offer different options for planning your trip: Bräkneleden is a 70-kilometre hiking and cycling trail in the Bräkneån Valley, and you can also use individual sections. The Byaslinga is a 3.7-kilometre village loop. This means you can choose between a loop with a specified distance and a longer trail that lets you use individual sections. The distances help you compare the routes without specifying a walking or cycling time.

Parish centre and park history

Around Bräkne-Hoby Church is an older parish centre with a well-preserved character. It includes a vicarage dating from the 1750s, as well as a sexton’s house and a parish granary from the 19th century. The parish centre’s state of preservation is one reason why Bräkne-Hoby has been designated an area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation.

The church’s architectural history also offers specific historical points of interest. Bräkne-Hoby Church houses a baptismal font from the early 13th century, made of sandstone from Åhus. Transepts were added to the church at an early stage; this was unusual at the time for Romanesque churches in Denmark and Sweden. There are around 400 archaeological remains in the wider Bräkne-Hoby area, testifying to its long history.

Svenmanska Park adds a designed parkland history to the area’s cultural highlights: it is a well-preserved example of the neoclassical park style in Sweden. Together with the buildings around the parish centre, it shows a different side of the area from the trails in the valley.
