The wine route, walking trails and museums reveal different sides of Sinarcas. The municipality is one of the ten towns on the Utiel-Requena Wine Route. You can also explore the surrounding area along marked routes and at natural sites; museums and historic buildings in the town tell stories of agriculture, crafts and history.
Experience Wine and Explore the Surroundings
At Bodegas Sinarcas, the programme includes a visit to the winery with explanations of the production processes. It also includes a wine tasting and an aperitif featuring regional products. The wine cooperative was founded in 1937 and has 200 members. Bobal is the predominant grape variety across its 1,000 hectares of vineyards. A visit to the winery therefore brings together insights into production and local wine culture.
In summer, Bodegas Sinarcas also offers guided excursions through the hills of Sinarcas and to the Iberian archaeological sites of San CristĂłbal and Carpio. The excursions end with a wine tasting. While the winery visit focuses on the production processes, this seasonal offer combines the landscape and archaeological sites with a tasting. As dates and booking details may change, it is advisable to confirm them before making plans.
Walking Trails with Different Highlights
The PR-CV 124.1 Sinarcas–Los Cerros is a circular trail covering 12.80 kilometres, with an elevation gain of 310 metres. These details can help you factor the route into your day’s plans. The trail’s latest maintenance status has not been fully confirmed, so check the current trail conditions before setting out.
The PR-CV 124.2 passes through La Toba, El Regajo, Piedra de San Marcos and Las Grajas before reaching the Ermita de San Marcos. Unlike the PR-CV 124.1, this route is described in terms of its sequence of named places, with the ermita as its destination. The surroundings of the ermita are described as scenic. Both routes therefore offer specific points of reference for planning.
Nature Between Green Riverbanks and Lagoons
Willows, poplars, ash trees and elms grow in the Barranco del Regajo. The Los Lavajos micro-reserve comprises two small lagoons with aquatic vegetation of endemic species. These two places showcase different natural features: the riverbank plants mentioned here, and the small bodies of water and distinctive aquatic plants there.
The Arboretum Mediterráneo is an educational trail open to everyone. Along the way, Mediterranean plant species are easy to identify. The trail offers its own way to discover the region’s plants, while the lagoons of Los Lavajos and the vegetation of the Barranco del Regajo highlight other aspects.
Museums and Buildings in Sinarcas
The Museo del Cereal is housed in a former flour mill built in 1935. It contains original historic machinery. Guided tours are offered year-round, and an audio guide is also available. The Ecomuseo del Hábitat Rural focuses on another aspect of the town’s history: it is housed in a restored former home of an agricultural family in the old town and offers insight into the living conditions and way of life of such a family in the late 19th century.
The Iglesia de Santiago ApĂłstol also adds a historical and religious dimension. It dates from the 19th century and houses an image of the Virgen de las Campanillas. In Sinarcas, industrial history, the former life of an agricultural family and religious art therefore stand side by side as distinct themes.
A Feast Day and Regional Cuisine
The RomerĂa de San Marcos takes place on the last Saturday in April. It includes a pilgrimage to the Ermita de San Marcos, a picnic and dancing on the threshing floor. If you would like to plan your trip around this feast day, confirm the date locally in advance.
Local cuisine includes bread, cured meats, caldereta, gazpacho de monte, patatas en caldo and the traditional burruecos, as well as local red and rosé wines. Stained glass and copper glasswork are also among the crafts made in Sinarcas. Local highlights thus range from wine and cuisine to museum visits, landscapes and crafts.
