In Torrent, historic buildings and museums sit alongside documented hiking and cycling routes. Visitors choosing the town for a trip can therefore focus on different things: the history of the Torre de Torrent, exhibitions about Horta Sud, or routes through the Barranc de l’Horteta and the surrounding area. The routes differ in their course and themes; before hiking or cycling, it is advisable to check current conditions.

Hiking trails with different points of interest

The straightforward SL-CV 123 Camí del Xorro hiking trail runs through the Barranc de l’Horteta and is rated as low difficulty. Along the way are historic irrigation structures: the Xorro spring and mine, the Arquillo and Canyes arches, and the restored dam of the Torrent reservoir. The trail ends at the Mas del Jutge estate, built on an ancient Roman settlement. The route description thus combines landscape and evidence of water management with an archaeological connection.

The SL-CV 159 starts differently: its starting point is in the centre of Torrent, and the route first passes through the old town. It then runs through El Vedat and to the Marxadella and Canyada del Conill recreational areas. Information boards accompany a nature trail about flora and fauna. The route also includes four recreational areas with picnic and children’s areas; the availability of facilities may change. While the Camí del Xorro stands out for its historic irrigation structures and the endpoint at Mas del Jutge, the SL-CV 159 is characterised by its start in the town centre and its information boards.

For a different perspective on the landscape, the BTT1 cycling route follows quiet rural roads through Torrent’s former dryland farming area. It heads towards the summit of the Sierra Perenxisa. The Sierra is designated a flora micro-reserve.

Towers, museums and Semana Santa

The Torre de Torrent is distinguished by its square floor plan, five interior floors and height of 22 metres. Historically, it served as a refuge for local residents and their possessions. On 6 June 2001, the tower was included in Spain’s historic heritage register as a Bien de Interés Cultural. The building offers a chance to consider its distinctive form as well as its former function and protected status.

The Museo Comarcal de l’Horta Sud Josep Ferrís March is housed in Ca l’Estudiant de Boqueta, a former farmhouse dating from the first decade of the 20th century. Its permanent exhibition depicts the way of life of a family from Horta Sud, whose livelihood came mainly from working the land. The exhibition thus offers a glimpse into everyday life and agricultural work in the region.

At the Casa Museo de la Semana Santa, the procession figures are arranged in chronological order according to the Passion. They are displayed in a central nave of more than 1,400 square metres; the museum is currently recognised as a Colección Museográfica of the Valencian Community. The museum arranges visits by appointment for school groups, associations and private groups. If you wish to include such a group visit in your trip, it should be arranged in advance. Semana Santa in Torrent is also recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Autonómico. The celebration is associated with “el rossejat” as a traditional dish; what is available may vary.

Putting the garden and transport in context

The Hort de Trénor is a historic garden and is classified as a Bien de Relevancia Local. Its features include a neo-Gothic chapel and garden areas representing the flora of the Valencian Community. These include Mediterranean woodland and areas with cork oaks and holm oaks. The garden thus combines protected historic status with a varied presentation of regional plant life.

The metro connection to Valencia is also worth considering when planning a trip. As transport service details may change, check current connections before travelling. To choose a suitable stay, consider Torrent in light of your own interests: the routes offer different highlights from the museums and historic buildings, while the garden, festive traditions and transport links provide further aspects to consider when planning.
