The Sellent River, also known as the Río de Bolbaite, divides Bolbaite’s town centre into two halves, connected by bridges. The water thus shapes how visitors find their way around and offers access to different aspects of the destination: river scenery, local history and traditions. During your stay, you can focus on each separately or combine them as different themes for a visit to the town.

By the Río Sellent: river landscape and recreation area

A walk through the Paraje del Río Sellent takes you through the river landscape and offers the chance to enjoy the clear water. At the mouth of the Sellent, a natural lake has been developed as an inland bathing area. This gives you two distinct ways to enjoy the river: walking by the water and swimming in a lake specifically designed for bathing.

The riverside recreation area is accessible from the CV-580 via the second roundabout on the approach to town; there is a car park at the entrance. You can walk there from Bolbaite’s historic town centre, as vehicle access is reserved for residents. Check the current parking situation and access rules before setting out.

Circular route and views

The Bolbaite Agroforestal is an 8.48-kilometre circular route. A municipal tourism brochure from 2019 gives an approximate duration of 55 minutes. This is a rough guide for planning; check the route details locally before setting out.

Next to the Ermita Santa Bárbara, in the upper part of Bolbaite, there is a spacious recreation area with picnic tables and a restaurant, offering lovely views. Facilities may change over time, so check the latest information before your visit.

Local history and crafts

At the Castillo de Bolbaite, information panels describe the castle’s history and architectural features. A relic of Saint Francis of Paola is kept in the parish church of San Francisco de Paula. These two sites offer different ways to explore the cultural heritage: the Castillo focuses on the castle and its historical context, while the church offers the relic. Local crafts include wicker and esparto grass weaving, as well as the production of Caliqueños, small cigars. These details will appeal to travellers who want to discover buildings, religious history and local crafts as well as the river landscape.

Festivals in Bolbaite

The festival in honour of the patron saint Santa Bárbara is celebrated in Bolbaite on 4 December. During the Despertà, a band and popular singers make their way through the streets early in the morning, setting off firecrackers. Processions also take place to and from the Ermita Santa Bárbara. If you plan to travel for a festival, check the dates in advance against the latest programme.
