Pedralba offers different ways to explore its culture and landscape. Historic streets and religious buildings provide a different focus from hiking trails, riverside scenery and birdwatching. Contemporary art and regional cuisine are also among the things to discover. This makes it easy to tailor a stay to your own interests without cramming everything into a single itinerary.

Historic streets and cultural contrasts

The Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción is a 17th-century church. It was built on the remains of an Arab mosque and has a Baroque façade and an impressive main altar.

Calle de la Acequia is shaped by the canal of the acequia madre, bridges and stairways; houses that retain their original structure complete the streetscape. Calle Rocheta preserves remains of the former castle wall and runs partly through Pedralba’s former Muslim medina. Stairways make it easier to get around on foot.

The Ermita de la Virgen del Luján stands on a hill with a viewpoint and offers panoramic views of Pedralba. Casa-Museo Pedralba 2000 provides a different cultural focus: this public contemporary art museum has a permanent exhibition of 250 works across 1,500 square metres. It is housed in a fully restored building dating from 1911.

The church and museum represent different periods: one is a 17th-century religious building, while the other combines a building dating from 1911 with contemporary art. Together with the historic streets, they offer various ways to explore Pedralba’s architectural history and culture.

Trails, riverside scenery and birdwatching

From Pedralba’s town centre, you can reach Rincón del Pontón on foot via Camino del Candilico. There you’ll find shaded picnic tables and benches, as well as easily accessible natural pools. The Ruta del Azud is a 5.85-kilometre hiking route of low difficulty, with an estimated duration of two hours.

The Ruta cicloturista Villamarxant-Pedralba offers a different perspective. It follows public paths, passes the La Pea hydroelectric plant and crosses farmland and landscapes along the Río Turia. The Ruta Parque Fluvial de Pedralba follows the Río Turia through traditional orchards and recreational areas. Picnic spots are located along the route, which also offers opportunities to enjoy nature in Turia Natural Park.

The ZEPA in Pedralba offers themed tours and birdwatching, including opportunities to look for eagle owls and Bonelli’s eagles. The routes differ in focus: the Ruta del Azud can be assessed by length, estimated duration and difficulty; the cycling route crosses farmland and Turia landscapes, while the riverside route links orchards and recreational areas. The ZEPA’s themed offerings are available for birdwatching.

Traditional specialities

Pedralba’s traditional specialities include olla pedralbina, carne a lo pastor, “vitaminas”, coca con tajá and almond Mantecaos. They are available from local restaurants and bakeries. The cuisine adds another local dimension to the town’s cultural and natural attractions.
