The Casa-Museo de Torrebaja brings together themes from agriculture, livestock farming, domestic work and traditional trades. In Torre Baja, these insights into everyday life in earlier times sit alongside riverside routes, historic architecture and memorial sites from the Spanish Civil War.
Riverside Routes and Summer Spots
The PR-CV 131.3 Ruta del Ebrón follows the Ebrón to Torre Baja, where the river flows into the Turia. The Ruta del Agua de Torrebaja highlights different features: it starts in Torre Baja next to the Aula de la Naturaleza, passes the Molino de San José and is 3.5 km long. Its elevation gain is listed as 8 m. These details make it possible to distinguish between the two routes: the description of the Ruta del Ebrón focuses on the river’s course, while the Ruta del Agua has specified length and elevation gain.
The Presa de Torrebaja is on the lower reaches of the EbrĂłn, just before it joins the Turia. The reservoir area includes a clear, cold pool and tables for spending time outdoors in summer. Seasonal conditions may vary; the connection with summer is part of the character of this place.
Museum and Memorial Sites
The Sala de la Memoria at the Casa-Museo preserves graffiti from the Spanish Civil War and displays objects from the conflict. The Casa Museo is recognised as a permanent museographic collection of the Valencian Community and is integrated into the Valencian Museum System. Visits to the Casa-Museo can be arranged on request through Torre Baja Town Hall. Confirm the contact arrangements again before your trip.
The Ruta Huellas de la Guerra Civil en Torrebaja has two distinct sections: in the mountains, it passes trenches and machine-gun nests; in the town centre, it includes air-raid shelters and other evidence of the bombings. Check availability before booking. Marked trenches and machine-gun nests from the Spanish Civil War can also be found at Loma del Montecillo.
The archaeological site of Villar de Orcheta, known as Los Villares, is also part of Torre Baja’s historical heritage. It is an abandoned settlement in Torrebaja associated with remains from the Spanish Civil War.
Architecture and Work in Earlier Times
The Torreón de los Picos is a square manor tower dating from between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Its Baroque ornaments add a differently designed façade decoration to its clear basic form. The tower provides a concrete point of reference for considering two architectural features together: its square shape and Baroque ornamentation.
The Molino de San José was the last watermill built in Rincón de Ademuz. The Ermita de San José stands on the outskirts of Torrebaja, near the old mills Molino de San José and Molino del Señor. The gypsum kilns of Los Aljezares tell the story of another form of work in earlier times: more than sixty former kilns have architectural and ethnographic value and can be reached via a marked rural path.
Landscape and the Changing Seasons
At Paraje del Montecillo, you can learn about the geology of RincĂłn de Ademuz and its fossils. Representative rocks from different geological formations are displayed there, and the site also offers wide-ranging views. Geological features and views across the landscape can therefore be enjoyed in the same place.
Torrebaja’s Fiestas Mayores are celebrated in the last week of August in honour of Santa Marina and San Roque. This recurring date marks a clear point in the annual calendar, while the routes, historic sites and landscape offer different focuses for planning a trip.
