The Aqüeducte de Santa Bàrbara shows how closely building history and irrigation are connected in L'alcúdia. There is also a church with a distinctive local nickname, two museums in a historic building, archaeological traces and routes through landscapes with different features. This makes it possible to shape your stay around your interests: cultural history, collections or outdoor activities in natural and cultural landscapes.

Architecture and cultural history

The Aqüeducte de Santa Bàrbara was built in 1842 as part of L'alcúdia's irrigation system. It is 260 metres long and spans a height difference of three metres for irrigation. The structure is comprehensively protected. Its dimensions and function give it a clear connection to local irrigation history.

The Temple Sant Andreu Apòstol is an 18th-century church. Because of its great size, it is known locally as “la Catedral de la Ribera”. The foundation stone was laid on 30 November 1746. The nickname is a local name for the church; the date of the foundation stone adds a precise historical date to its 18th-century context.

Another historic building is now known as Hort de Manus; its origins date back to the beginning of the 17th century.

Museums and archaeological traces

The Museu de la Música is housed in the restored Casa de la Solera, a former manor house typical of the 18th century. It features a permanent exhibition of musical instruments bequeathed by Master Manuel Celdrán. The Museu Etnològic de l'Alcúdia is also housed in the Casa de la Solera. It documents part of L'alcúdia's recent collective history and displays agricultural tools, arranged according to manual work and animal traction. Thinking of the two museums together, music history and insights into agricultural work come together under one roof. Exhibition details may change.

Els Évols is an Iberian necropolis in the municipality of L'alcúdia, dating from the 4th to the 1st century BC. Other archaeological artefacts from L'alcúdia are displayed in the Biblioteca Municipal; the presentation there may change.

Routes through landscapes and culture

The routes also offer different approaches. The Volta a Tous starts in L'alcúdia, is 51.72 kilometres long and offers views of part of the mountains with significant natural heritage. The Volta a la Ribera del Xúquer passes through L'alcúdia and is a 107.9-kilometre circular route that connects the coast and inland areas and offers opportunities to visit heritage sites. The distances help you compare the route lengths; check the route and current conditions before setting out.

The Ruta del Caqui combines cultural heritage with a landscape of the Ribera del Xúquer shaped by persimmon cultivation. Those who want to explore the connection with agriculture as well as architecture will find a different thematic focus here than on the two Volta routes.

The PARATGES environmental route is a walk in the surroundings of a local natural area, where visitors can learn about habitats and the species found there. Els Fornals, another natural area, is nearby L'alcúdia.

L'alcúdia also participates in the PARATGES-RUTES MEDIAMBIENTAL DE LA RIBERA programme. Organised by the Consorci de la Ribera, the programme includes guided visits to natural sites or areas of particular ecological value in the Ribera del Xúquer. Operations and dates may vary; check the specific dates if you would like to plan such a visit.

Food and events

The Fira Gastronòmica de l'Alcúdia has been held continuously since 1995. Dates and programme may vary. If the event fits your travel plans, check the specific event dates.
