Two routes show different trail profiles: a route of just under three kilometres from Segart to the Mirador del GarbĂ, and the 9.80-kilometre GR 10 E02 stage to Serra. Segart lies in the heart of the Sierra Calderona; alongside its hiking trails, springs, viewpoints and historic buildings shape the town. For planning your trip, it is worth making a direct comparison: should you focus on a linear stage, a trail to GarbĂ or the sights in town?

Hiking: Trail Profiles in the Sierra Calderona

The linear GR 10 E02 stage from Segart to Serra starts at Plaça de l'Ajuntament and is 9.80 km long. The main GR 10 route from Segart follows the old path and climbs through the Barranc del Garbí. It continues past a quarry to Pla del Garbí, next to Puntal de l’Abella. The route description thus links a clearly named starting point with prominent landscape features along the way.

The Ruta de las Cadenas offers a different distance: described in April 2021, it runs from Segart to the Mirador del GarbĂ, is just under 3 kilometres long and passes through a rocky ravine to the summit of GarbĂ. This makes it easy to compare the stated distances of the two trails: 9.80 kilometres for the GR 10 stage and just under 3 kilometres for the Ruta de las Cadenas. For another hiking option, the Ruta de los 6, 7, 8 o 9 Picos de la Calderona starts at the Santo EspĂritu recreation area. It passes through the municipal areas of Albalat dels Tarongers, Segart and Gilet. In Segart, the camino de la Mola is also one of the marked trails.

There is an important restriction for the Canal del GarbĂ section: it is considered a climbing route, not an officially certified hiking trail. It is not suitable for anyone without the necessary technical skills and protective equipment. Check the current route status and equipment requirements before setting out; for the Ruta de las Cadenas described in 2021, the FEMECV notice is relevant before you undertake the section.

Springs and Scenery

The Recorrido por las fuentes de Segart route, described in November 2013, leads to the springs and is considered an easy route suitable for all audiences. There are up to nine water sources along the way. Access in spring and water flow may vary. Font del Salt lies almost on the boundary between Segart and Nàquera; during periods of heavy rainfall, it can form a waterfall. Font de Jaume is on the CV-329 access road to Segart. La Mola de Segart is considered the municipality’s most outstanding natural landmark. The trails thus take in a variety of landscape features: springs, a possible waterfall and a prominent natural landmark.

Church, Calvario and Castle

In town, the Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción dates from the 18th century. Next to the town hall is Segart’s former public washhouse, which can be visited. Castillo de Segart is a fortress of Muslim origin. Remains of the outer walls and main tower are visible at the site. These remains indicate that the castle was part of a larger defensive complex.

Calvario de Segart is a viewpoint with a hermitage and is considered a recommended hike. Ermita de la Santa Creu is near the cemetery, at the end of the ascent. The access route described in April 2021 starts near the church square and passes cypress trees and Stations of the Cross marked with painted tiles. Trail conditions can change; check them before you begin the climb. The church, washhouse, castle and Calvario thus offer a distinct historic focus alongside the longer trails in the Sierra Calderona.
