In Alfafara, landscape and cultural heritage come together within a small area: part of the Serra de Mariola Natural Park lies within the municipality, while trails and historic buildings offer different perspectives on the town. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these highlights separately—from hikes with clearly stated route details to caves, a mill and buildings in the town centre.

Hiking trails with different route details

The “EL PANTANET – NECRÓPOLIS MAS DEL POU” route starts at a waterfall in a natural setting. It is 4.78 kilometres long, has a low difficulty level and a stated effective walking time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The “ALFAFARA – CABEÇÓ DE MARIOLA” route offers a different perspective on elevation: in about an hour, it gains more than 500 metres; the views extend for several dozen kilometres. Visibility and trail conditions can vary, so check conditions before setting out.

The figures describe different aspects of the two trails: for the first route, the distance, difficulty level and effective walking time are specified; for the second, the elevation gain and approximate time are the focus. The second route also features information panels about the Iberians. You can therefore choose based on whether you prefer to focus on specific route details or on the cultural and historical context along the way.

Caves and heritage integrated into the rock

The Cova de les Finestres consists of artificial troglodytic cavities built for agricultural storage and other uses. There are twelve cavities in total, carved into the rock and accessible by a wooden staircase. Check the current safety conditions before entering. Inside, most of the cavities are connected, forming chambers on several levels—their layout is as remarkable as their former function.

The MolĂ Rupestre del Pantanet is also closely connected to the rocky landscape: it is integrated into the limestone of the ravine and lies in a cave near the Barranc del Pantanet, beside a small waterfall. The mill is open to visitors; check local access conditions before your visit. Its location inside a cave gives this heritage site a different spatial character from the agricultural cavities of the Cova de les Finestres.

Church, chapel and historic details in town

In the town centre, L’Esglèsia de la Transfiguració del Senyor stands next to the town hall. The church was built in the 18th century and is a religious building of significant heritage value to the local population. Its location makes it one of the town’s buildings that can be found right in the centre.

The Ermita de la Mare de Déu i Sant Antoni is in a different setting: it stands in a pine forest near the town and is designed in the Neo-Renaissance style. Its grounds include a recreation area suitable for a family day outdoors. Thus, the townscape includes both a religious building beside the town hall and a chapel in a wooded setting, with each place having its own character.

In the old town, the Font de Dos Xorros is next to the washhouse. It was built in the early 19th century and receives natural water from the spring at the Cova de la Font; water conditions can vary. The combination of fountain and washhouse is part of the town’s history and differs from the caves and ravine sites set in the landscape.

Festivals and getting there

The Festes patronals d’Alfafara officially begin on 6 August and are designated a festival of tourist interest. On 7 August, the Divina Aurora is celebrated with a pre-dawn wake-up ritual featuring singing and a procession through the town’s streets. If you would like to plan your trip around these dates, check the current festival programme in advance.

Alfafara town centre can be reached via the local CV-700 road. It runs from Muro d’Alcoi to Bocairent and connects the N-340 national road with the CV-81 regional road. Check road conditions before travelling.
