Alcorcón combines extensive green spaces with a range of cultural attractions. These include city parks and a large peri-urban forest, as well as contemporary glass art, puppet exhibitions and signposted trails. This offers different ways to shape your stay and plan visits to each attraction.

Green spaces: city park and woodland park

The municipality has 16 city parks, three woodland parks and smaller landscaped areas. The green spaces cover more than 340 hectares in total—around ten percent of the municipality’s area. The parks vary in scale and landscape.

Parque de Los Castillos is a 12.65-hectare city park in the San José de Valderas neighbourhood. It was established in 1991 and lies between Avenida Alcalde José Aranda and La Paz and Juan Antonio Bueno streets. Its location within the urban fabric is therefore clearly defined.

At 57.50 hectares, Las Presillas is considerably larger. As of July 2026, its size and natural diversity made it the city’s most valuable peri-urban forest. It includes an extensive pine forest and a group of centuries-old cork oaks, which support numerous plant and animal species. The park also has areas for visitors to relax, signposted trails and a children’s playground.

The two parks offer different ways to explore: Los Castillos is a city park located in a neighbourhood, while Las Presillas is an extensive woodland area with marked trails and places to relax. The area figures make the difference in size clear, while the facilities at Las Presillas offer additional guidance for planning a visit.

Routes and getting around

Alcorcón has three signposted routes designed to promote health through walking. Information boards along the routes give details including the route profile, length, elevation change, difficulty level and approximate time needed to complete the full route. This information helps you assess the length and demands of an entire route. As route conditions can change and signage may be updated, check the information before setting out.

Alcorcón’s green routes also highlight connections: they link key hubs on the Madrid Metro and Cercanías networks with natural areas or notable parks in the Community of Madrid. They also provide connections to other places, both for daily travel and leisure trips.

Glass art, puppetry and local attractions

MAVA (Museo de Arte en Vidrio de Alcorcón) is a municipal museum of contemporary glass art. It displays international works created entirely or partly from glass and opened on 23 October 1997. The museum is housed in Castillo Grande de Valderas. Admission and guided tours are free; confirm the current visitor arrangements before your visit.

Centro del Títere offers visits to its puppet exhibitions and puppet-making workshop. A municipal programme for young people also includes workshops on planting trees and shrubs, routes for identifying species, map-reading and orientation, and workshops on propagating ornamental and useful plants. The programme also includes guided visits to the Quercus tree nursery or various parks. The schedule may change, so check the activities in advance.

The San José de Valderas neighbourhood’s local festivals take place every year. They bring together live music, cultural activities and food enjoyed together. Check the dates and programme before travelling.
