Highlights of a stay in Arroyomolinos include the Torreón and historic mills, as well as green spaces, the Senda Mágica and local festivals. If you are looking for a hotel in Arroyomolinos, you can first decide whether architectural history, outdoor trails or local traditions should shape your trip.

The Torreón and the History of the Mills

The Torreón de Arroyomolinos is a building in the Gothic Mudejar style. Since 22 April 1949, it has been protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of castle. It was restored in 2003; today, the Torreón is part of the network of archaeological sites open to visitors in the Community of Madrid. If you are planning a specific visit, check the latest visitor information in advance.

Only the remains of five historic watermills survive in Arroyomolinos. Four are on the north bank of the Torreón, and one lies to the south, with its original weir. The Ruta de los Molinos del río Guadarrama connects five former grain mills in Arroyomolinos: Molino del Caño, Molino de las Isabelas, Molino Perdido, Molino Doble and Molino Valdefuentes.

Molino Doble is also known as Molino del Río. It is a hydraulic mill of the double-bucket type with an aqueduct; its features include two water tanks and two millstones. Archaeological remains of medieval Mudejar-style mills can be found along the Cordel de Arroyomolinos.

Green Spaces and the Senda Mágica

Arroyomolinos has 120 hectares of green spaces and seven urban parks. Visitors can take part in a variety of activities in the parks. This adds a dedicated green-space focus to trip planning, alongside the town’s architectural and milling heritage.

The Senda Mágica is 1.5 kilometres long and runs along the forested area. The trail is very easy to walk for children and even with a pushchair. A magical story featuring fairies, gnomes, trolls and other mythical creatures accompanies the route and raises awareness of environmental protection. The trail thus combines a specific distance with a story-based way of presenting this topic.

Festivals and Getting There

El Corpus Christi is Arroyomolinos’s most important festival. The celebrations include events that are part of the municipality’s traditions. The Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Paz is celebrated on the last weekend of January. It is associated with the tradition of sharing products from the home slaughter, though the specific programme may vary. If you are planning your trip around one of the festivals, check the latest dates and event information in advance.

The Autovía del Suroeste (A-5) is Arroyomolinos’s main road connection for car traffic and links Madrid with Badajoz. If you are travelling by car, the A-5 is an important point of reference; check current road conditions before setting off.
