A trail through pine forest to the banks of the Duero and the surviving remains of historic buildings give Laguna de Duero two distinct sides: nature and history. There is also local craftsmanship, pinchos, traditional music and performing arts. When planning a stay, visitors can therefore choose between different focuses, from landscapes and architectural history to events.
Forest and riverbank
The Ruta del pinar de Los Valles y la ribera del Duero runs through a pine forest to the banks of the Duero. It thus links a route through the forest with a clearly defined destination by the river. Those wishing to focus on nature will find a striking combination of forest and riverside scenery here.
Another natural spot is Parque Recreativo Los Valles, a pine park. Its facilities include drinking fountains, a kiosk with a bar, toilets, barbecue areas, tables with seating and a children's playground. As visitor facilities may change, check which amenities are currently available before your visit. DĂa de la Vieja is also celebrated in the park in the middle of Lent, bringing nature and local tradition together as reasons to visit.
Surviving buildings and historic remains
Today, only a 7,654-foot-long stone enclosure with crenellated towers, a gateway bearing the coat of arms of the Catholic Monarchs, and a hunting palace or hunting lodge bearing the same coat of arms remain of the so-called Bosque Real de Felipe II. The recurring coat-of-arms motif links the gateway and the hunting palace or lodge as a specific feature of this historic site.
The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Villar is a 16th-century building with a single nave, an octagonal apse and a ribbed star vault. These terms describe both the building's layout and distinctive features of its architecture: “single nave” refers to a floor plan with one nave, “octagonal” to the eight-sided shape of the apse, and “ribbed star vault” to the vault structure.
The surviving parts of the Convento del Abrojo include walls, the cellar and the Fuente de San Pedro Regalado. Along with the hermitage and the remains of Bosque Real, these sites offer different starting points for a visit focused on cultural history.
Crafts, music and seasonal culture
Artelago takes place every year on the first weekend of June. Its 25 craft stalls are spread across 14 hands-on workshops, where visitors can take part in making handcrafted items. Participation is therefore an essential part of the event. Check the dates and programme for each edition.
Ruta de Pinchos has been held in connection with the San Pedro Regalado festival since 2007. Over one weekend, participating food and drink establishments serve specially prepared pinchos. For planning, check the specific dates and participating venues for each edition.
Son de AquĂ features street parades and stage performances by groups playing traditional music. The annual programme may change. A municipal announcement dated 24 August 2026 listed theatre, circus, music, dance and family performances at Casa de las Artes; these programme details are seasonal.
Entorno del Lago keeps alive the memory of the natural lagoon that gave Laguna de Duero its name. The Certamen Nacional de Esculturas Flotantes takes place there in late August and early September. Check the current event date before travelling.
Travel options vary depending on the time of year: Artelago is held every year on the first weekend of June, the Certamen takes place between late August and early September, and DĂa de la Vieja falls in the middle of Lent. Ruta de Pinchos is linked to San Pedro Regalado; check the specific dates and participating venues for each edition. If a particular event is the reason for your stay, it is best to check the dates before booking.
