Aldeagutiérrez is included in the list of dehesas of Ledesma. Ledesma itself combines cultural heritage with marked trails and activities on the Tormes. This brings different themes together for trip planning: dehesa landscapes, architectural history, cycling and water activities. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide which of these themes matters most when choosing your destination.

Routes on foot, by bike and on the water

The Centro BTT de Ledesma brings together a network of 100 kilometres of marked trails: five signposted routes with varying levels of difficulty. The Camino de Tajurmientos is an easy circular mountain-biking route through dehesa landscapes and past cattle farms where breeding fighting bulls is the main activity.

The Playa de Carnaceda route follows the banks of the Tormes, passing in part through the LIC Riberas del río Tormes y afluentes, which is protected as a Natura 2000 site. It passes Playa de Carnaceda and ends at the former Aceña de Pedro Álvaro watermill. The route links riverbanks, a protected area and two named landmarks. Canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding are also possible on the Tormes near Ledesma, including on calm stretches of water that resemble a lake. If you are looking for a route rather than a water activity when planning your trip, you will find two distinct options here: a trail with named landscape landmarks and water sports on the river.

Architecture and history in Ledesma

Santa María la Mayor is considered one of the outstanding examples of Hispano-Flemish Gothic architecture in the province of Salamanca; in 2002, the church was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural. Inside is the tomb of Don Sancho, a grandson of Alfonso X of Castile. If you would like to explore architecture and history together at one attraction, you will find both here: its Gothic classification and the tomb with its historical attribution.

Much of the town wall is also made of granite. Of the eight historic gates, only Puerta de los Mártires remains; it is also known as San Nicolás or Caldereros. These names refer to the same surviving gate, not three different gates. The Bletisa Centre covers the history of the town from prehistory to the modern era, using audiovisual and interactive elements. For another perspective on Ledesma’s architectural history, there is the Puente de Peñaserracín, whose origins may be Roman. It spans the Rivera de Fuentes Luengas, is 51 metres long and 3.75 metres wide, and is still passable.

Calendar and local speciality

Ledesma’s major Corpus Christi celebrations take place in June; they last seven days and include the bull runs known as “Espantos.” Individual events may vary, so check the dates in advance if you are planning your trip around them. Rosquillas de Ledesma also offer a specific connection to local production: two bakeries make the well-known rosquillas. You can take part in making them by booking in advance; check availability before your trip.
