Mount Catoute reaches 2,117 metres; the Ruta de los Molinos runs through dense riverside woodland, and Páramo Del Sil is home to traditional stone and slate buildings with coats of arms. These contrasts give you a practical starting point for planning: decide whether to focus on hiking trails and landscapes or on architectural and mining history.

Hiking between mountains, forest and viewpoints

The Ruta de las bóvedas to Catoute can be started in the village of Páramo Del Sil. Another hiking option, the Ruta Alto Sil a la Sierra de Gistredo, begins with the section from Páramo Del Sil to Primout. The Cabanos, once shelters for shepherds, have been restored for hikers.

Dense riverside woodland shapes the route along the Ruta de los Molinos. Walnut trees, ash trees, oaks, poplars, alders and birches grow there; the watermills along the route are historical relics and a tourist attraction.

The Ruta La Campona starts in Páramo Del Sil. From a natural viewpoint, you can see the Tejera Valley, Salentinos and the Catoute massif. Its destinations include the Pedrosillo refuge and the natural arch of Peña Furada.

The Ruta del Miro, also known as Pico Cheiroso, is not suitable for inexperienced hikers. The suggested route starts in Valdeprado. From Páramo Del Sil, reach the starting point via the N-631 towards Villablino, then take the road to Cerredo. As road conditions and signposting may change, check the route before setting out.

Individual landscape features can also help you choose an excursion: Lago del Miro is a glacial lake. From Miro de Páramo, you can enjoy a view of the Sil gorge and the villages in the municipality.

Architecture, everyday life and mining history

Traditional buildings in Páramo Del Sil include stone and slate structures with coats of arms, as well as wooden balconies typical of Bierzo Alto. Casa de la Indiana dates from the 18th century. The parish church is neoclassical and has a dome above the crossing, where the nave and transept meet.

The Museo etnográfico is located on the upper floor of the multipurpose building. It displays old local handicrafts, agricultural equipment, kitchen utensils, craft tools and fishing gear.

The Galería Minera recreates a mine to scale. A former miner explains the development of the mining districts, the working methods and the materials used.

When looking for a hotel in Páramo Del Sil, consider what you want to focus on during your stay: hiking trails and landscapes, or local history, architecture and mining.
