Sotillo de la Adrada lies south of the eastern Gredos massif, in a landscape of gently rolling plains. Several perspectives can help you plan a trip here: routes with distinctive river crossings, local culture and a regional wine tradition. This makes it possible to get a sense of the place through specific walks as well as its historical and culinary connections.

Routes and River Crossings

The Sendero Los Puentes de Sotillo de la Adrada is a 13.3-kilometre circular hiking route that starts in Sotillo and is rated as easy. Along the way, it crosses the Río Tiétar at several named bridges: these include Puente de Las Pozas, Puente de Las Chajurdas, Puente de Escalona, Puente de la Carretera de la Higuera, Puente de los ocho ojos, Puente de la Navaleja and Puente Chico. The trail also leads to the medieval Puente Mosquea. The bridges give this loop a clear focus: the river crossings and the medieval structure are both part of the route as described.

The first stage of the Ruta Teresiana De Los Caminos y Posadas offers a different kind of route. It covers 22 kilometres from Sotillo de la Adrada via Casillas to El Tiemblo. Compared with the 13.3-kilometre loop, it differs both in its greater length and in the places named along the stage. This gives you two specific criteria to choose from: a circular route starting in Sotillo, or a stage with an intermediate stop and a destination.

The Sendero Sotillo de la Adrada–El Borbollón has a different focus: this hiking trail offers views of Sotillo de la Adrada, La Adrada and the upper part of the Valle del Tiétar. When comparing the routes, you can distinguish between a route featuring bridges and river crossings, a longer stage between three places, and a trail with described views. Each option has its own specific connection to the surrounding area.

For a general idea of the road network, Sotillo de la Adrada is located at the intersection of roads AV911, CL501 and M549. Together with the starting point of the circular route, this gives you a picture of the town’s location and road connections, without conflating the routes mentioned.

Local Culture and Wine Tradition

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios dates from the 17th century. It is considered an unadorned religious building with a symmetrical design; its interior is also very simple. This historic structure stands alongside the routes, whose focus is on the landscape and the river bridges.

Another cultural feature is Las Noches de Ronda, a deeply rooted local tradition. The Quintos of each year’s cohort perform it on 5 September and again at the beginning of the year, at the end of the Christmas holidays. These two occasions give you a specific point of reference if you are interested in local customs. If Las Noches de Ronda determines your travel dates, check the specific event date in advance.

The wine tradition also connects Sotillo to its region: the town is one of the places with sunny vineyards from which the red Pitarra wine of the Valle del Tiétar comes. This links the town’s name to a clearly identified regional product. Together with the Ermita and Las Noches de Ronda, it gives a varied impression of local character: a historic religious building, a recurring custom and a wine tradition that points beyond Sotillo to the Valle del Tiétar.
