Explore Peraleda del Zaucejo via linear trails and tangible traces of everyday life in the past. Two routes provide a clear framework for planning: the RUTA DE LOS PILONES leads to water pools, while the longer RUTA LA BARROSA is also suitable for cycling. There are also cork oak forests in UmbrĂa de la Traviesa, a historic well and a bridge associated with local memories. Nature and local history offer different focal points for planning your stay.

Hiking and cycling on two routes

The RUTA DE LOS PILONES is 4 kilometres long, linear and rated as easy. It takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk to the water pools. The starting point is the Oficina de Turismo on Paseo de La Serena. From there, the route initially follows the BA-107 towards CĂłrdoba, then continues along an easy-to-walk rural track and onward along a path.

The RUTA LA BARROSA is a 9-kilometre linear route rated as easy. It is suitable for hiking and cycling and is recommended in spring and autumn. Its extension allows visitors to reach the old Molino de Melchor grain mill via a path along the ZĂşjar River.

Both routes are rated as easy, but differ in length and what they offer: at 4 kilometres, Los Pilones is shorter and has an approximate walking time to the water pools. La Barrosa is 9 kilometres long and is also suitable for cycling. Those wishing to include a mill as a historic destination can do so on the La Barrosa extension.

Cork oak forests and the best seasons to visit

UmbrĂa de la Traviesa is in the western part of the municipality of Peraleda del Zaucejo. Spring and autumn are recommended for a visit; the same seasonal recommendation applies to the Ruta La Barrosa. The area is characterised by cork oak forests (Quercus suber), which belong to evergreen sclerophyllous forests on acidic soil. This offers nature lovers both a distinctive landscape and a seasonal guide for planning a visit.

Local history in buildings and everyday life

The Puente de los Enamorados is a historic structure that once spanned a stream from the Sierra. The bridge was dedicated to schoolchildren and couples who spent their free time there at weekends. The site therefore brings together the memory of a former stream and local social history.

The Pozo de la Comercianta also tells a story of everyday life in the past. Due to a lack of drinking water, the well was used to water animals and wash clothes. It was also a place where neighbours met. Water supply and community life went hand in hand here: the well served both a practical and a social function.

The parish church in Peraleda del Zaucejo has a simply designed façade. A bell gable with a broken pediment, buildings of different shapes and numerous pinnacles define the ensemble. Inside, the church has a Greek-cross floor plan. A central ribbed dome vault and the similarly vaulted chancel define the layout of the church interior.

The town's original parish church was a 16th-century building. After it was destroyed in the Civil War of 1936, it was replaced by a new building. San Benito Abad is considered the town's patron saint; 11 July is associated with him.
