An official circular route, cycling trails to the river mouth, birdwatching and the history of the Delta give Sant Jaume D'enveja a range of different highlights. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether you want to spend more time on trails, by the water, or exploring the local culture and events.

Routes and riverbanks

The official Sant Jaume d'Enveja–Els Muntells–Eucaliptus circular route is 19.3 kilometres long and takes around three hours. The Via Verda to the river mouth is suitable for cycling and is 14 kilometres long. The Camí de Sirga starts at Lo Passador and runs 8.7 kilometres to the river mouth. It has rest areas and small platforms on the riverbank for fishing and birdwatching. This gives you a choice of different types of route: a circular trail, a cycling route to the river mouth, and a route with places to stop along the riverbank.

Lo Passador itself is also a useful landmark for planning: the bridge is 250 metres long and has a cycle lane and a rest area. These details help you consider the route length and potential breaks as separate aspects of your trip, rather than comparing distances alone.

Water, coast and birdlife

The Migjorn River is suitable for canoeing, thanks to its width and depth, gentle current and low boat traffic. Platja de Migjorn is also suitable for kayaking, and you can watch the sunrise there. Platja del Serrallo is more than three kilometres long and can reach 100 metres in width. The coastal areas and river zone offer various options for days focused on water and landscape.

From Mirador de Migjorn, the view stretches far across the Delta; the viewpoint is also a good place to observe the many bird species that live there. Finca del ViolĂ is also accessible from Migjorn. There you can see restored wetlands and a large bird colony. Another distinctive landscape feature is the Gola de Migjorn: it is one of the Ebro's former river mouths and is now blocked by a sediment barrier.

History and events

The Centre d’Interpretació de les Barraques del Delta has an exhibition about the lives, work and living conditions of the Delta's first settlers. The centre includes a traditionally built barraca furnished with furniture and equipment; it also shares the customs and history associated with it. Lo Xalet is one of the notable buildings in the town centre. The story of Far de Buda offers another glimpse into the past: the historic lighthouse collapsed into the sea on Christmas night in 1961 during a storm at sea.

The events highlight a range of different traditions. The Festa de la Plantada takes place at the Arrossar Interactiu on the riverbank in Sant Jaume d'Enveja. The programme includes a rowing demonstration and Jota workshops. Somriu, the festival marking the anniversary of Lo Passador, has been held every year since 2010, over a weekend featuring numerous activities and market stalls. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the dates for your stay.

Horse rides, market and local cuisine

Equidelta offers a horse ride through rice fields to Mas Illa de Riu. The route then follows the Paseo Fluvial back towards Sant Jaume. The operator also offers activities with ponies. This means you can plan a tour through the rice fields as a separate activity, rather than treating it as one of the routes along the river.

The Sant Jaume d'Enveja weekly market takes place on Fridays. Local restaurants serve Delta-style breakfasts featuring baldana, eel in sauce and prawn omelette. The specific offerings may vary from one establishment to another, so check before you visit.

Getting there and planning

Regular bus services connect Sant Jaume d'Enveja with nearby towns, L'Aldea station and Barcelona. Check the timetable before travelling if you plan to use a service during your stay. It is also worth checking event dates and the menu of a chosen restaurant in advance when planning your days. This will help you divide your time between routes, nature watching, culture and regional cuisine according to your interests.
